Another noob questiion about air intake/duct muffler/carbon filter

Hi i just bought a 6" hydrofarm inline fan 400cfm for my 4x2x6 stealth closet the fan runs quiet but the fan sucking in air sounds like theres a jet overhead i bought the speed controller im gonna make a diy carbon filter my question is could i put the carbon filter on the intake end so the air sucks thru it would that work to muffle the air? it exhausts into the attic so outake isnt the issue is the air going in

if you have a better idea please by all means share what has worked for you in the past?

The proper location for the filter is on the intake side of the fan anyway. Fiters work better when pulled through rather than blown through. It will help, but not eliminate the noise... what you want is a duct muffler... or you can build a DIY baffle box of sorts (a box that the intake pulls through that is lined with foam to muffle the sound.) but to do the baffle box you would actually need to put the filter on the exhaust end, or make it completely air tight, in which case you're basically making a muffler anyway.

If you have the money, duct mufflers are all over ebay.

what goes into a muffler to cost 60$ looks like 5$ worth of egg carton foam in a 10$ aluminum shell with a nice 45$ label on it that saiys growbrite

I run the same fan on a speed controller and its not loud at all I sleep like 4 feet from it my ballast is louder than the fan

the fan isnt loud at all i think what is making all the noise is that theres nothing at the top of tho closet so that sucking air sound echos which makes it sound louder then it actually is
