Been a fan for more than 20 years.... Sad day....

Just over two years after contracting a rare skin tissue disease, Slayer guitarist and songwriter Jeff Hanneman died on Thursday from liver failure at Hemet Valley Medical Center, near his home in Southern California's Inland Empire area.
Slayer made the news public on Thursday afternoon, announcing that the band "is devastated" and calling Hanneman, who was 49, their bandmate and brother. Twitter quickly filled with messages from fans and fellow musicians, many of whom were in Los Angeles for the 5th Annual Revolver Golden Gods Awards show at Club Nokia. Disturbed/Device frontman David Draiman was among the very first, posting "RIP TO A TITAN OF METAL," while drummer Mike Portnoy wrote, "WOW...I'm in shock...RIP Jeff Hanneman."

RIP Jeff.

Been a fan since I was 12. Reign in Blood is a masterpiece and I loved their material before and after. I was one of three guys in the largest high school in Minnesota that wore our Reign in Blood shirts with pride.
Met Jeff in 91 at the Clash tour in Minnesota along with Tom and Dave of Megadeth. These guys were fucking dedicated to their fans and Jeff stood out as being one of the more fan friendly guys in that group.

One memorable date in my life

I like how out of all the Slayer songs in the whole world, you posted Tormentor, the one I was going to post. Oh well, there are many more good ones to share!

I noticed in the OP it says "a rare skin disease"... my understanding is he had been in the hospital for a while because of a spider bite. Yesterday his liver finally gave out... I don't know if it was due to the spider bite or just an unrelated coincidence while he was already in the hospital, but it would seem the spider bite did it.

Hanneman wrote a lot of Slayer's music and lyrics and they won't be the same without him. He wrote a lot of shit that changed my life and who I am as a musician. I saw them years ago in Denver, CO at their Tattoo the Earth show at Red Rocks.
