I was told to stop neuts due to the stem rot not allowing the plant to truly eat properly so to allow it time to rest, and it'll help with stress. I had to re-empty my res after I read the post, but of course I have to read arrogant posts from people who think they're better.

Soil is the headache. You' need to bring soil up into your apartment and get soil everywhere, and when you ruin your soil, you're fucked.

With hydro, just add the chemicals to some water, make sure the pH is right, and make sure the water has oxygen in it. Hydro is way more straight forward in my opinion. With a true soil system, you're feeding the soil with NH4+ instead of the plant with NO3-. Soil is a whole ecosystem of bacteria that you have to take care of. That's another step of complexity added to the picture, especially for noobs who just see nitrogen as nitrogen.

NO3- in soil will actually hinder the bacteria that convert NH4+ to NO3-, but is used exclusively in hydro because there is no bacteria to do the conversion. You are the bacteria.

Plants seem to be reacting nicely to the neuts, I notice some new growth this morning. I woke up and checked res temps, temps seem to be near 73 so its not bad at all.

Hey RedzoneFL. Hydro is so much cleaner, don't worry about the haters. You know what they say about opinions. Anyway, If you have the room check out the video on youtube about converting a dehumidifier into a chiller. Its way less expensive than buying a "chiller" and works just as well according to the video as I have not personally tried it. 73 seems too hot for the res to me. Get some 1l or 2l water bottles and freeze them. Float them in your res. and switch them out when needed. Way cheaper than both a chiller or a DIY chiller. It does require you to pay attention to it though. I just had a similar problem with DWC in my veg. I have been flushing for a week with only potassium silicate and adding frozen water bottles and things are perking up. New white roots are emerging and the plants are looking at the light again. Once recovered, I will add back nutes. Good luck to you and you neighbor! Enjoy some with them for your hard work! It definately will not hurt ya! Peace

Well since I'm not doing DWC, temps arent really a concern but I'm going to go to the store latter and find some large ice packs because those would be insulated and its easier to keep "frozen" for longer periods as my bottles become unfrozen quickly.

ive never seen a hydroponic nursery . good luck, cant help with the dro probs but soil by far is more forgiving , maybe go to the hydro forums they have a lot of exp over there

That being said I believe its easier with Ebb and Flow then soil by far... The fact it waters every 6 hours for 15mins; maintain the PH, PPM and make sure there are no malfunctions whats so ever.

I am having some trouble with my DWC plants but I am feeding/watering for 30 min every two hours and noticed you have it set much less frequently. Is that because your roots have reached the water already or have you had it set at this pace the whole time? My roots have not reached the water and I was scared of them drying out. Should I water less frequently?

I'd suggest doing a top feed drip or just hand water them twice a day. One thing I know is this; you dont need to water for 30 mins every 2 hours, thats way to much!

I have many many many many years in the business, I was a owner of a large nursery for nearly 25 years. This is just a retirement thing to keep me busy. I don't even use the bud nor ever would, simply doing it to keep my self busy along with helping out a neighbor who does need it.

But again soil is simply, but the ebb & flow is just to basic to even get messed up

Then you shouldn't be having any, any, any, any issues in a fairly user friendly system such as the one you're currently employing. I think what people are trying to say is, go back to square one: the very basics of growing cannabis. It may be that soil may prove to be a more fail safe media in regards to your growing skills. If you're staying put in ebb and flow though I would stop taking advice from your current mentors however as they're leading you far astray.

Please have a look and tell me if there is anything you would change (and if you could take a stab at whatever is causing my leaves to yellow and curl up-that would much appreciated!) I switched the timer to 30 minutes every 3 hours this morning to see if that helps.
