In no way does this post have anything to with the arguing going on:

I defoliate all fans starting at the end of week 5, and notice stunting for two to three day's after, strain and pheno dependent.
In a SOG setup it is almost a necessity for fitting 60 into a 3x6 coco bed, and not having to lollie pop is more important to me then
reduced growth for three days. I agree fans are important for a number of reasons and taking them definitely reduces growth for a
period of time but, if your feed schedule is on point and you garden is pest free, the difference is not as great as you would think in
most cases. Certainly not worth arguing over.

If you don't defoliate down low early in bloom it might help to take fan leaves late.
It's primarily a fix for insufficient light penetration.
In a sog type grow light penetration through the canopy can be a problem.
Sufficient lighting down low helps to ward off disease besides ripening benefit.

I also agree the guy probably should not mess with his first grow.
But it's really hard; think about yourself and how hands on you wanted to be when you started.
And I don't know RD - you have lots of reasons for being a dick to people; but it get's old man.

ive been doing pretty darn good at fighting my urges to mess with the girls.. I've went light on nutes, never burned, and took a "less is more approach".

with that said, I did however elect to do some controlled expirements on an isolated population of my garden (1 plant). I figured even if I killed the damn thing I would not be too upset. I'm fortunate to be able to fund my needs even if I never grew another plant in my life.

i choose to grow because I want to, not because I need to.

I agree wholeheartedly, at the time of that post I was just trying put some perspective into the infighting.We are all on the same team and do not like seeing that kind of stuff. We need to leave that kind of
behavior to the mainstream.

Username put his heart and soul into those plant and did a great job in my opinion. In his other thread
I tried to give a little advice about his night temps being to low, I saw too much protective leaf growth on
his d star, and tried to politely suggest to him he might get better results with his lights off temps being a
little higher.

There is no doubt in my mind User will be teaching us a thing or two in a few years. Don't let that kind of
stuff deter you from sharing and learning there user.

I agree with you that on your first grow you should simplify your technique in order to understand it's natural growth. But at the same time, this website is used to be able to share cultivation techniques and help people out so that they don't necessarily need to take the baby steps that some did. rather defoliating is a positive or not is debatable, but you don't need to just drop in acting like an asshole. Present your opinion. Present why. Present facts. Don't be a fucking asshole for no reason. It doesn't help anyone!

This website is used by a bunch of kids to bicker and swing their dicks.

If you want to pick up cultivation techniques there are better sites to frequent.

Username, I personally don't remove a single leaf at any point unless it's about to drop anyway. All healthy green leaves stay put for reasons that others have already touched on.

I agree with Rare D that you should get to know a strain first before you start playing with it. Develop a baseline for yield, and then change one variable at a time in subsequent grows. Having said that, there is nothing wrong with what you did. You'll learn more by experimenting with your girls than you ever will on the web.

You did a great job in my opinion.
Next time plan to trim down low some just before putting in bloom or shortly thereafter.
That pretty much takes care of the 'ripening' problem and has extra benefits.

It causes the higher buds to swell more, and often leads to improved yield.
It also eliminates most of the down low disease incubation environment.
Also: never let leaves touch the growing medium to prevent disease.
