What happens if you plant 2 seeds right next to each other?

I've been wondering this for a couple years, but never really had any motive to find out. Assuming they both grew, what are your predictions of what would happen? How would it effect output?

Both will be stunted because they can't get light and nutrients because they don't share root space, or one will out grow the other and shade the small one so it dies, or they both die, nothing good will happen.

When they both grow strong and healthy and it's time to separate them to bigger pots.
You rip the roots apart so carefully and they both suffer shock and may not recover.
It's not like growing marigolds.

Your roots will twist up and get confined, you will find yourself rootbound with stunted, deficient plants.
It is a very bad idea.
