After more than 2 years of testing medical marijuana for the Oregon community, we have
discovered a problem with the CBD peak. As my poster states chromatography is a technique used to
separate compounds in a mixture. Sunrise can now show that testing facilities everywhere identify a
peak as CBD which is actually a mixture of CBD and CBC. Sunrise can actually separate this peak into two
peaks and confirm the compounds. We have found a few samples with just CBD in them (Harlequin
Tsunami), but most have a higher CBC content.
In order to confirm this finding, a search for another testing facility using a GC/MSD (Gas
Chromatograph / Mass Selective Detector) was conducted. One facility in Montana and one in California
were found, but neither has responded to a paper written about Sunrises results. (None in Oregon,
Washington, or Colorado) Research conducted at University of Mississippi in 2000 and 2010 support
this separation of CBC and CBD. Sunrise is concluding that the CBC and CBD are different.
CBC and CBD can be separated and quantified as different compounds. Therefore from 5/1/13
Sunrise Analytical reports will reflect the ACCURATE quantitation of CBD. For comparison with other
facilities, add the CBC4 amount with the CBD amount.
As with CBC and CBD, Sunrise has determined that most testing facilities are not distinguishing
CBN from CBG.
Sunrise Analytical has added 2 CBC isomers which increases the reports to 21 different
cannabinoids, using a mass selective detector the cannabinoids can be identified with help from a NBS
Library (National Bureau of Standard 75,000 compound library).
We are excited to provide you with the best chromatography and compound identification
available. We strive to report accurate results.
