Anyone Pagan?

If you mean I worship the Universe and celebrate Winter Solstice over xmas and as a stoner, for sure the Summer Solstice is my only real day of celebration!

Pagan is not a real religion. It describes a bunch of people who have religion- but in itself it is not one official and defined thing.

It's an umbrella name used by people like Christians to lump together many beliefs and rituals held by a wide variety of people. Christians for example would use 'Pagan' as a dirty word to slander non-christian religious practice and beliefs. When the 'pagans' existed back in their day- they didn't call themselves thus and didn't consider all of one and other to be in the same camp. They thought they were just doing what made sense, whether it was a blood sacrifice to ensure a crop yield or building a monolith to line up with astrological points. When they consulted a source for their religion, it didn't call itself 'Pagan' and it excluded many of the varying people and beliefs which are lumped into 'Pagan'.

To be a modern 'Pagan' is just someone who looks up in google and books and stuff what other 'Pagans' have done.. which comes from combinations of cultures and peoples and theories and presumptions, etc- all cobbled together.

You see how Mellowfarmer had to ask if it included one of his beliefs? See how he got tucked under an umbrella that could also contain people that don't celebrate the solstice? Notice how there was no holy book nor official source to cite if his belief is or is not 'Pagan'?

That is a good answer, thanks! I don't consider pagan a religion but just as you described; mainly a bunch of people from various backgrounds who don't really fit in and don't want to and sometimes they find each other and form groups, some lasting longer than others. I would never tell a person who identified as a pagan that they were not because of what I thought a pagan should be because there is no real set of guidelines. I am certain there are exceptions of those who have had this passed down generationally and consider themselves the true pagans and this is fine as well. All my opinion I have not looked into much of it. I just despise how xmas is exactly what the man named Jesus would of fucking hated happening as a celebration of his birthday and it makes a hell of a lot more sense to celebrate the movements of our awesome Universe that provides us with life.

It is also hella fun answering strangers saying merry xmas with Happy Solstice! The faces are priceless lol :bongsmilie:

I used to hang out with a bunch of pagans. We had loads of fun: frollicking in the woods, taking LSD, riding around on motorcycles. We used to grow weed and make meth. One day the ATF kicked the door down.Turns out my friends were Pagans M.C. The agents quickly realized i was a gullible idiot and released me. I have since been more careful in my associations.

My advice to any pagans out there is to be cautious: you never want to be the guy/gal sacrificied to the Goat of Mendez. If anyone suggest tying you to a tree: run.

In all seriousness, pagan religion/values were the ones displaced in europe by christianity. A lot of folk medicine/wisdom was lost. Too bad we all weren't more tolerant. I have no problem with pagans. I am much more afraid of rednecks.
