A Starbucks for pot?

The former corporate strategy manager for Microsoft has started a company named after his great great grandfather, Diego Pellicer who grew hemp, with the aim of developing a chain of smoke shops modeled after Starbucks world wide. He already owns 3 dispensaries in the US, with 3 more in California soon to be acquired. He is in negotiations with the Mexican government with the support of former President Fox, to supply the marijuana, with the idea of taking away a major source of revenue from drug cartels. He is also espousing the tax benefits and reduction in crime to the countries he is in discussions with. The Seattle based company is seeking $10 million dollars from investors in order to expand his operations. Do you think he has any chance of making this work, or has he been smoking too much product? Do you think this will help with legalization, or is this just the beginning of the corporate take over of the marijuana industry, and would that be a good thing, or bad.

I heard about this on talk radio. Part of the story too is that he wants to trademark a strain or strains to use for the business. I dont think it will ever materialize on the level he is talking about. Regardless of pot being legal in washington, it isnt legal federally. I dont see how he plans to grow a bunch of weed in mexico and then transport it to Washington and sell it without being targeted and arrested.

Plus,if he plans on growing in Mexico Im assuming it would be unremarkable outdoor at best, I dont see how he could get everyone thats used to high quality indoor to flock to his weed cafes.

you know what for every person who is able to start a shop should look at this dude and take the same idea, so when his high class over charged weed becomes known people will stop buying it. i want to start a cafe shop with weed, hash, shatter, cookies, soda, tea, tinctures, hemp rolling demos ect. it seems like a good idea, but taking kush or deisel and selling it for 30-40 a gram because of his name is bullshit.

I think the real question is, are the Cartels gonna let that happen?

I mean look at we did to the gangs in Mexico, its a turf war. You don't operate on their turf without remuneration

This guy should be negotiating with people in Washington DC first. Even if he is able to get an endless supply from Mexico, he won't be able to bring it here legaly.
