ya the straw works as a fine mulch. of course a diverse decaying leaf pile would be better. ive heard straw has a lot of anti-fungal properties to it.
to help it out in the fungal dept. i like to buy enough for the following year too. so the bales can sit out in the elements and get rained on all winter. im going to wrap the sides of the containers with burlap to help with heat culling the roots as well

My beds have pea gravel around them now...
Im thinking straw will be a good idea. Mostly for heat reflection. Those stones can get hot!

i do like walking on the straw as well. its softer and cooler than native, an added bonus to laying it down in the walkways. main reason i put it down there, is to keep the dust at bay. which it does a really good job of.

im slowing matching the lighting to the longest day of the year, solstice june 21 i believe. so 9 more days.
The summer solstice occurs when the tilt of a planet's semi-axis, in either the northern or the southern hemisphere, is most inclined toward the star (sun) that it orbits. Earth's maximum axial tilt toward the sun is 23° 26'. This happens twice each year, at which times the sun reaches its highest position in the sky as seen from the north or the south pole.

im piling up one more mound with 3 yards tomorrow. so 600 gallons. soil made completely from scratch. all locally sourced price $200 not bad for 600 gallons huh?
1 yard lava rock
1 yard diestel turkey compost
1 yard sphagnum peat moss
per cubic ft
4 cups rock dust (50/50 basalt/glacial rock dust)
1/2 cup kelp
1/2 cup neem
1/2 cup crab
1/2 cup gypsum
this is my new super soil recipe for in's and out's. impossible to burn your plants!

I vote for sure strawberry cough and vortex is really bomb and a quick finisher. Vortex is my favorite TGA strain besides jilly bean.

lava rock is for aeration, a substitute for perlite. it doesnt pulverize over time. and contributes to the soils cec. with the above recipe i water with teas aloe, coconut, barley malt and fulvic acid and foliars with the same. if you want to learn more go here: http://forum.seeddepot.nl/showthread.php?4100-Recycled-Organic-Living-Soil-(ROLS)-and-No-Till-Thread the rest of the stickies are winners too!

im gonna double plant the strawberry cough. and bring the vortex inside to flower in the beds. dropping 5' diameter concrete re-mesh cages on the 14 blue dream and green cracks and mixing up those 3 yards. never no time to play, gotta keep workin everyday!
