What's the longest anyone's vegged I've got an 8 week period for veg. Inc seed time I'm looking at 6weeks veg. It's dwc so I'm expecting loads of growth.
I'm growing lemon skunk and she has quit a bit of stretch and strong side branching.
I know nugs made his own rings let his plants reach a foot tall then flowered. I expect plants to be larger then 1ft tall.
He mentions letting plants grow 3inches above the ring and then flowering.
How much growth should be above ring before flower???

Well in this method you will be controlling the height and stretch and where your colas will be placed....

As much as you feel safe with. There will be a flowering stretch, but that's strain dependent(other factors too).
Think of it as, "How big of colas do I want?", instead. Also, if Nugs was veggin' 3" past the rings and ended with those "donkey dicks", that's quite a bit of growth.

I have vegged for 10 weeks before but I also
veg slow under a couple cfls, I'm in no hurry. I veg for how ever long it takes to get that clone rooted then how ever long it takes to finish bashing and flowering the one in line before it. I prefer itto take a long time to root clones 3-4 weeks and yes sub cool is on this site, find him inn the weed nerd thread.

Day 7 of 12/12 and they stretched 6 to 7 inches.Four Blueberry Skunks mainlined to 8.

I've been running a kush haze cross for a while now and it works out fine. I veg under the cfl until the flowering plant is done than throw it under the hps for 2weeks before switching to leery it grow up and get used to it's new pot. Let it grow up 3-5 above the ring then I trim it up week 2 of flower but I leave a couple of the side branches to create a secondary level so I can get enough trim to make hash..... Great answers there..couple qs to you both ....
You and subcool are both saying let it grow 3-5 above ring. Do you all use the same size ring or do you make it strain dependant, e.g if I had a 2ft plant I would need a 2ft ring, let it grow past 5" , trim all growth under ring and flower. But if I have a 6ft plant would I need a 6ft ring and then let it grow past 3-5", trim, then flower,?? Is that how it works???
I'm assuming any more then 5" above the ring and will mean secondary branching and not the big donkey diks we want.
Could you both show large plants and how you would apply this method with like if possible,??

I use your basic tomato ring you can get at any garden supply or Wal-Mart if you want it is about 16" round and has 3 metal legs that are about 24" long. once pushed into the soil the ring is about 15" from the soil line so the plant is grow to about 18-20" tall, if you have a 2 ft plant you're already 9 inches past the ring. more than 5 inches ye you will probably have side branching above the ring. most side branching will com from below the ring I you keep it from getting to far above it and you can cut it all off I wouldn't cut off anything above the ring. With that being said bigger plants = bigger buds.. I have no picture to show you I do not grow large plants

they seem to naturally grow shorter mainlined. when I do it they seem to top out at 28-45" from the soil line. a bigger pot might help you get more height too. I use .75s and 5s a 7 gallon might get you more??? try it. I think that's one of the reason sub doesn't do it you might just top it once young and let it grow up to half the size of your space pretty sure that's most of what he does

Looking good mohican... Wanted to add to what I was saying before about height, I feel 48" is plenty comfortable in a 8ft. Tall room. I know my room is small and the fan and filter is almost right above my light and that takes up 16" right there.add the hood and hangers that's about 8 moor inches, then the light is 12"away from the plant then the pot the plant is in is another 12" so.... That's 48" there. Only really leaves me 48" for plant. 3-5 inches above the ring usually gets me right around there

Half the benefit of mainlining IMO is how short the plants stay as a result. If you have beigger plants you`re not making full use of your light, the lower buds won`t get adequate light and will take from your tops. Mainline naturally keeps the plants squat because of the training, and in turn, allow the light to even reach the lower budsites. The entire methodology is based around light and nutrient efficiency, which it is quite good at. Nice post Mo, and again Tussel, ATB to the mainliners out there!
