Closet or Grow tent?

So for the last few months I have been enthralled by Rick Simpson's Run From the Cure so I've decided to grow my own to make some cannabis oil. Now I'm an older toker and my wife is ok with me making the oil. My older brother has had some problems with colon polyps and as our families age, I want to have some medicinal cannabis around for everyone's sake.

My youngest son just graduated from college and lives at home and is working. I'm not sure I want him to know what I am up to. I'm sure he partakes but young kids today, loose lips sinks ships. I don't want any anecdotal stories being spread among his friends. I sleep in my own bedroom, my wife has her own as she gets up very early for work. Should I grow in a purchased 2x4x5 grow tent and vent through a fan and charcoal filter or growth in my 2x4 closet in the room and vent with a fan and charcoal filter and through the attic and out the attic side vent? The grow tent is easier and I could grow some tomatos and stuff as a front. The closet is more involved as I have to run wiring, switches and exhaust vents do I keep the door ajar during the light phase? Thoughts?

I just ordered a 300W LED light from China and plan to have an aeroponic/DWC scrog setup. BTW, is White Widow a good medicinal strain?

I reccomend the tent for flower and use the closet space to veg and clone. Also reccomend getting some newer genetics, white widdow is classic but there are tons of others. These days you can pick out strains to treat your ailments, so start looking around at the options there.

Hi there.

Check out www.Leafly.com to find strains that will help your ailments.

The tent will require less work as its already got holes for vent/intake, is already lined with nice reflective material and is light tight but ultimately it sticks out like a sore thumb in a room. If you really want to hide the grow the closet is the best option but as you already mentioned you have to cut holes for ventilation and wiring as well as line it with reflective material - and no you shouldn't leave the door open, your ventilation should be adequate while its shut.

I'd also say that unless your planning on growing a LOT of weed or really want a perpetual harvest, its not worth having two grow areas

How about something like this armoire which measures 80" tall, 48" wide and 24.5" deep. Inside has a shelf to hold a TV and is open in the back for wires. Inside measures 31" tall, 41.5" wide (with doors closed) or 46" wide (with doors open). Armoire can be taken apart into two pieces for easier moving. Comes from a smoke-free home. It would be incognito and I can line it with mylar, put some vents and wind socks in and adapt it.

That would be great, you could even use the bottom area with some T5 tubes for vegging/clones. I've seen it done before.

Ideally you want the vent coming out of the top so you'd still need to cut into it for that and the big hole would need to be sealed off to stop light leaking out which is a dead giveaway. other than that it looks good man.

Yeah I reccomend a tent to flower in to"or cab" I had a setup in a closet before and things get tough with heat and air exchange if you can cut your walls up... I havent had a setup up running in over a year and I just bought supplys yesterday!! So I am about to get things cranking again cause god I miss my smoke.. but Im just gonna run a 400hps and construct a woodin frame then wrap it in thick black plastic for walls. I think it should work out pretty good! i still have all my exhausts and fans and shit so it will just be a matter of constructing and mounting. I veg in a small closet and it seems to work out pretty good. But goodluck on finding a good cab man! I really like the idea you posted!

78 degrees in the closet. It's in my home office with an intake of 74 degrees. It was 104 degrees outside yesterday but nice and cool in the closet. When you spend the time and money you can make a great indoor environment for growing, total stealth too.

Only issue you might have with something like that is light leaks.....those lights can get bright and will shine through a cabinet like that. Will work for sure....I have a small setup in my closet. It is 2x4x8 and I have a 400 watt HPS/MH setup. For me it is a one stop shop, I veg and flower in same room. As much as I love to geek out on growing doing a perpetual grow and having clones, seedlings, keeping moms etc. does not fit with my schedule right now. I am also lucky to be in CA. and have clones ready available from dispensaries and/or friends who grow legally. Also I have ordered seeds online as well (no big deal). So I am good with keeping it simple 2-4 plant grow and can get 2-3 harvests a year. I also love the DIY stuff and it can be a lot of fun designing and setting up a grow box or closet not to mention save a little money. The biggest issue you will have in a small space is getting the environment dialed in. Controlling temps, air flow and air exchange....just know stealth is not as easy to accomplish as you think. Lights are bright, fans make noise, plants will smell heavily in flower. All manageable just know it isn't as easy as buying a cabinet, putting in a LED light with an oscillating fan inside and throwing some beans in soil. You seem to be aware of some of these issues. A tent would be easier for you to manage and is lightweight and can easily be taken down. The cabinet is big and bulky and will require lots of extra work to setup as others pointed out, you enjoy the project part of it and it is less conspicuous as well. If you do get this cabinet and looking for a way to keep light out you can buy some Panda Paper and line the from with it. You could go as far as buying the zipper as well and creating almost like a tent effect inside that cabinet.

Also do a google search on supercloset, will give you lots of ideas (super over priced)...Good luck!

That's probably your best bet for a stealth grow, but I don't think it's really possible to grow without your son noticing. Fan noise, smell, pumps, etc. Its one thing to hide it from visitors who stay in the living room or dining room, but another to hide it from someone who has free reign all over the house.

I kind of agree.....but his son is older. Just graduated from college, kick his ass out! Whats with all the kids these days who can't stop sucking off the tit of their parents. Kids now are soft I tell you!! lol All jokes aside, I am sure your son is past the age of hanging out in your room or going through your stuff. Speaking of past the age....maybe its just me and where I live but Pot is no big deal, practically legal and if you or your family feel it will help out medically then no need to be ashamed of what you are doing. I get it is still illegal in a lot of places and hopefully that will change soon. You are running a very modest operation and not a druggie or drug dealer I am sure all parties will be understanding. Keep it on the down low for sure that is always a good idea...my closet setup is pretty stealth but if someone comes in that room they can hear the fans and would be curious as to what is going on in there. It's funny, I just introduced mmj to my mom who has some medical issues....she knows I have been a long time smoker. I told her I have grown plants on my patio and I would bring one over for her as she has loves to garden. Definitely going to get her a card so she feels legit and not doing anything illegal. Thought that was pretty cool, just shows me people are starting to see all this differently now. Be proud to smoke and grow it is an awesome hobby as well!

Thanks for the words of wisdom and especially for the supercloset search, rwbrock, it gave me a lot of ideas. They do it so well but cheaper to self construct. I think you guys are right, I won't be able to hide it. I may clandestinely have a couple of tomato plants in there to pull out as a fake out misdirection play, haha. I've concluded that a grow tent is the way to go because it will contain the smell with carbon filters. There's too much odor leakage in furniture. Getting the LED 300W from China on Friday :)
