I was just wondering why do people risk damaging the route the sprouts out of a seed when they germinate it. Surly its a lot more risky to try plant the seed when the root is sticking out the seed...

So why is that method proffered over putting the seed straight into its growing medium?

You can pick and choose the strongest of the little buggers.

If you go straight to soil you might get nothing or a weakling.

HID :/ i know i probably snd like a fuckin idiot but i thought its worth an ask
No you're cool. I just want to be sure I understand before I answer. HID, meaning MH or HPS?

Either way your better off using a CFL until it has 1 or 2 joints.

to be honest i have no idea how to tell the difference. I bought everything from offline except the ballast and the light which i got off someone on the cheap

Look at this and match up your bulb to tell you the type.

You also need to know this. Each type of bulb is for a specific type of growing. One for veg, one for flower...

Your small seedlings will do rather good under a 600.. Keep the reflector about 24" from the top of your babies. Then, After about a week your plants will get used to the intense rays. Gradually lower it even more. Put your hand over the top of the plant. If the light slightly warms the back of your hand, but not burns it, then you will know the "sweet spot".

mine looks alot like the low=pressure sodium bulb... is that ok?
Humm that's usually a rare setup. Just be sure its not too hot like closetgrowth said.

If your leaves start to flip over or cower set the light higher.

ok so in a 3x3x8ft closet how close should i be able to get my mh to the plant and is using cfl for the first two weeks or roughly that better because my first attempt with mh has been really really shitty.

Yes CFL works great for babies, i'm using a 23 watt right now for 5 LARGE clones and they love it.

MH is usually too hot and too bright for babies, it works but its easier to use a lower powered source.

Yes, bigger root, more "sub roots" or hairs. Possibly already broken out of the shell if it's a beast.

LOL - I always get suspicious and think the bigger, more aggressive seed sprouts are male so I try not to use the larger ones as much. I have ZERO scientific evidence to back this up, it is just a baseless suspicion!!
