i've crossed over to cfl

WTF all im saying theres no way a cfl produces more heat than a hps no way

WRONG! Thanks for playing. Tell them what they have won Johny!

Watts is watts.

A 150W HPS puts out about 15,000 lumens and 150W (bulb) of heat.

A 26W (real) CFL produces 1200 Lumens ad 26watts of heat.

Now 6 26W CFls produce 1200 lumens (though over a greater area is setup right), yet produce 156Watts of heat.

More heat, less light.

Light intensity doesn't increase with more bulbs. Only coverage gets a benefit.

A candle does x btu's, 20 candles does the the same BTUs, just can raise the temp faster to that max temp.

uh... maybe i missed sum, but watts are now a measurement of heat...? read actual temps if you wanna have a heat argument. because i know that i can touch and hold my CFL's all day all night, and the only way they burn foliage is if there is prolonged direct contact. i have seen buds that have been burned by HIDs that were a good distance away...all in all, you can still grow sum damn good buds wid CFLs, been doin it for a minute now. but they aren't appropriate for every grow, some operations require HID lighting. everyone in here can agree that there isnt any kind of light that can fuck with the sun, period. to each their own, lets just get blown!

YES. Watts is plain and simple is power, AKA heat dissipation.

You can hold a *single* CFL/Ballast combo because its 26W.

Can you hold 10 of them? Or the 'work' expelled by all 10 of them? LOL!
(I can hold onto 10% of a HPS's bulb heat)

I've seen plants burned by CFLs also. But good for good, HPS outdoes CFLs. Bad for bad? Or bad for Good? poor arguments.

(worst HPS grow vs best CFL, not a fair comparison)

actually watts thermal are a measurement of heat, not electrical power. and hell yea, i could hold ten CFLs, you would have to be an albino or a straight pussy not to be able to... every different light source has its appropriate place. you guys are fuckin hilarious, its almost like a gang or sumthing...HID bangin' on CFL. L o muthafuckin L
it was worth the laughs, but has anyone grabbed any useful information out of this thread yet...?

Obviously *basic* physics eludes you.

You can hold 260Watts in your hand?

Where ya live? I'll burn miles and fly and video record this. Will make a good You-Tube video.

Watts is watts. what part are you missing here?
You have already flip-flopped on that watts *is* a measure of heat.
What are you gonna back down from next?

i have not learnd any thing can i use a 600w hps in a 3 ft w by 2 ft d by 4 ft h in closed grow cabinet.

height is your issue along with heat. vented hood/cool tube will help. but 4 feet isn't much.

1 Foot for pot (being generous)
1.5 foot below bulb

Leaves 1.5 foot plant size.

With a cooled hood, you can drop the lights a bit, but thats the bottom of the light, not the top. Hood would be 6 -10 inches in height.

CFL might be the best bet here. Since the heat isn't focused, just good venting can help (600W CFL = 600W HPS in heat) But the HPS will make MUCH better buds.

i am sorry should have gave more info.the hps is mounted at top of cabinet its fixed can not be moved has its own fan. cabinet has a 265cfm sqirrel cage blower with a carbon scrubber and a inline fan all mounted and pre built by company(it is a dwc grow) thanks

I think you are ummmmm a little bit trippin on this one if i have a 23w cfl it will only produce "23 watts" of heat right and if i have 500 it will only produce "23 watts" of heat but will get to the temps faster, so if i have a 600w light it will get too "600 watts" of heat??????.......

lets go with your mastery of physics here and look at it this way lets say one watt equals 1 degree F

my 23w will run at 23 degrees and the room will never get hotter than 23 degrees because that is all the heat it produces, even if i have fifty of them

Okay that said i have a 1000w hps does that mean that my room can get to 1000 degrees??? that is only like 510 degrees from melting steel you should call the gov't and let them know that the master physicist has figured out a new way to almost melt steel your better off tryin to go for aluminum though it only needs 1220 degrees to melt, but lead for sure that is only like 622. Good luck hope you get that grant for your lab!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG shut the fuck up noob talking shit.
Watts is not a plain and simple is power, AKA heat dissipation. WTF where did you get that from you noob
and a hps has alot more wasted heat (NRG) lol please shut up befor you reli do show your slef up

A watt is a measure of power.
Watt - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Take a basic science course before you talk

HPS a lot of wasted heat nope. only about 10% for magnetic.

18 year old stoners are just *so* cute.

just a second you said A watt is a measure of (HEAT) now its what
A watt is a measure of power NO SHIT NOT HEAT POWER LOL

Ok your dumb listen to this lol WTF is this kid on about ,
so my cheap 20w cfl is cooler than my 125w cfl NO IT IS NOT YOUR FUCKING NOOB
No shit the more power you run in it the hotter it will be.
BUT HEAT CANT BE WORKED OUT THOUGH WATTS

On3Tim3OnLy

lol there its all done there no way you can be right
my 20w cfl is reli hot i cant hold it for long but my 125w which has 6 x(times) the power NOT HEAT as the 20w one but i can hold that one for a long time so wheres you theory going down the SHITER .
now you see dumb you are to say that .

No. The 23 watts is volume, not a temp. If the ballast either CLF, HPS, etc, surface temp is 100F, the room may hit up to 100F.
Now having 20 of them, it will still only hit about 100F, just get there faster.

Never said that a watt was worth x number of degrees.

my 23w will run at 23 degrees and the room will never get hotter than 23 degrees because that is all the heat it produces, even if i have fifty of them

Ok. Alum vs steel. On your note here. how come a 4000W laser can cut 1 inch steel, yet only 1/2 alum? Same power.

LEAVE THIS FORUM NOW your talking shit i just poved your talking shit and your the one who needs a basic science course before you talk.
as
a 125w cfl can be cooler than a 20w cfl LOL WTF and Kevlin (K) (2100k-6400) and thats the temp its burning at lol thats why a 6400k is cooler than a 2100k bulb no matter the watts

On3Tim3OnLy

im not saying that if power(watt)added the temp wont be alittle higher but its all to do with the light source .
Coz my a 20w bulb which is hot and i got a 125w same kevlin but not as hot no way near but what your saying is 20/125= 6 x the power of the 20w bulb so whats that saying
POWER (WATTS) cant be a measurement of HEAT no way
but for real where did you go school to damn
