Thats Not A Bad Rule Of Thumb, But If U Water And Get Drainage U Are Keeping That In Check. If U Do. Go With About 1/2 Str.+ As Not To Rob Her Of It All. Db.~tlb!:)
That's how I water. I really flood them until I get a little water coming out the bottom. So are you saying that is enough to keep the salts and whatnot in check and I'm fine to not flush?

i am not a soil grower but my understanding is a soil flush is the equivalent of open-heart surgery. It is quite shocking to the system and isn't a preventative and should only be used when a life is in danger.

but like i said - i'm not a soil grower and am often wrong.

You know, I'm with you. I've never done it because I feel the same way. So many people swear by the maintenance flushing though. I guess I'm starting to lean towards doing nothing until I see a problem.

Grnman are you doing these monthly flushes?

For real? I heard the Cannabis Cup growers flush every ten days and it is best for getting quality buds. That being said, you can't put ultimate faith in one post you see on a forum. I only flush when I see a problem that resembles nute buildup or ph problems. Otherwise, I use Picasso's strategy of pretty much flooding the pot and getting plenty of runoff to push out those old nutes and water. Seems to be working for you great so far. Me too. And I have those yellow tips on my leaves as well. I'm pretty sure it means that you are at the maximum nute level before burn. I've seen several people say they like it that way because then they know they're getting all the food they need but I don't like it. I flushed and backed down the ppms by about 100 and it seems to be getting better.

I don't know for certain either. I agree that you shouldn't push your plants to the limit. I have heard folks say they back off the nutes a bit when they see yellow (I started off growing with the same idea too) but realized it wasn't about how much the plant can take - it is all about what the plant needs!

Alright, thanks everyone. Until I see a problem it is full speed ahead. Flushing will just have to sit on the sidelines for now and be ready to step in at the first sign of trouble.

I think email is a little off. I will go further into detail about this later. I've read from many reputable resources that say to do this and I've seen the results hands on. FLUSH EVERY MONTH!

**update**

First of all email, I love you brother, but you don't grow in soil so why would you say that? Soil needs to be flushed every month! I don't care what anyone says, we keep our plant in the same soil for up to 4 months. It needs to be treated well and taken care off. What we are trying to accomplish as growers, is to be growing the best pot. Why not give the plant the best environment possible? So this is why we flush with a mild nute solution to get rid of any access build up that is no good to our plant. In hydro, it's not the same. It's just as tough to grow in soil as in hydro - YEA I SAID IT! You have to maintain your soil in so many ways.

Just a thought picasso, don't let the haters get you down.

Unless it's needed? Like over nuting and other things. But to be safe, it's good to give your soil a nice clean environment. I've done it and seen my plants really love it. Plus the things I've read about doing it are from reputable growers. JUST DO IT! - like Nike! DB!

Why would I say it? I regurgitated almost verbatim what Cervantes says (as well as other authors) - with the caveat of my not being a soil grower.

why the hostility dude? disagreement does not equal hate.

According to the sources I have read flushing should not be done with plain water, it should be a 1/4 strength nute solution, two times the capacity of the pot. VV:blsmoke:
