What Does A "Swollen Calyx" Look Like?

I been putting off asking this because I feel like a real noob, but I sent my pics to a guy on here and what I thought was done after about 13 weeks into flowering is, according to the expert, nowhere near done, for whatever reason...
I stopped ferts at week 11 and when getting this news I started again.
As a result the skinny buds are gaining new growth again and look pretty fat now, which is nice to see and much needed.
Again I think I must be approaching the Finnish line.
I have tried researching this topic with little to no luck.
I would really love to see some side by side pics of Non-Swollen vs. Swollen so I can see what I'm looking for.
I really want to harvest but I feel perhaps I would be loosing out on quantity.

A swollen calyx will appear thicker than it did in the developing stages and (strain dependent) may have a seeded appearance even though not seeded . The calyx is the sheath that covers a possible seed if pollinated . In the end , most tend to look full when they are not . Hybrids and Indica is more easy to read than true Sativas, as some of these never develop the full swollen look as there seeds are usually tiny to begin with , hence very small calyx which your seeing at 13 weeks now . Sounds like you have some equatorial sativa on your hands or a modern Haze .

That could be; over the 4-5 years I been using these bag seeds they have taken huge lengths of time to mature.
Over the years I have blamed disease, mistakes, and lighting for the issues but I am beginning to doubt that.
The mistakes have gotten less and the lighting is pretty good now.
No matter what they have never produced a large amount or anything like some of the stuff I have seen out there.

Ordered good seeds online recently and they're going well, so I can't wait to see the next crop and be done with these bag seeds.
I would really like to move them to the tent asap.

Yea he mentioned the pistols weren't retracting but looking at the pic I'm not sure I see it...
I see pistols, but retracting? Curling up a little bit on some? Is that what I'm looking for?

I don't think the pistils actually retract; I think the calyx's swelling makes them look like they are retracting. What would they retract into and what's in it for the plant? Form follows function and a plant would not use energy for no reason.

Hey guys noob here , I'm wondering if I jumped the gun on one of my girls she was showing little balls but no pistils. Any info is appreciated thanks.

I always thought they did actually retract, as a mechanism. The plant hoping when it does that it contains pollen that it naturally wants so bad.
....Could be wrong though, thats just an assumption.

If you're meaning that the pollen is on the style (hair) and it needs to be pulled down into the ovary by receding no that is not the case. The stigma is a part of the style and pulls the pollen in and send it internally down to the ovary. the hairs just look smaller because of swell and I also think they die and dehydrate making them appear receded.

Normally when my first set of pistils retract and swell like that and no more new pistils come out with the swell it mean it has seeded.

You probably have a male in there is or it hermied on ya..

Try take a little budd off and open it up to check... I could be wrong

Or it could be a male even I never grew a male far enuff

image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg Ok so this is one of my other girls , now do these calyx look normal or can I expect seeds? I did squeeze one off and it was soft ,I'm about to start week 5 of flowering should I be concerned?
