Do vegans kill pests? (bugs, vermin, etc)

All of this vegan and animal rights talk has got me curious.

How do vegans feel about destroying nuisance bugs and pests? Do insects count as animals? Is it moral to squish them simply because they annoy you? What about unwanted pests like mice or rats? Is it morally ok to kill them?

morally? no I PERSONALLY do not kill mice, spiders ect, have I ever accidently stepped on an ant, probably.

come on how do these people eat? if they eat veggi's your killing a living organism. thye don't like killing animals how about living creatures such as lettuce and tomato. thye make really great friends.

You never use bug spray or swat any type of bug in your house? Do you just let spiders, centipedes, and flies have free run of your house?

I'm not talking about accidental killings. I am talking about intentional killings.

I do not intentionally kill bugs, I don't get many bugs in my home, the odd spider here and there I just pick him up and bring him outside

I don't think anyone would argue it is immoral to eat for survival, even if it is an animal (if it came down to it). I am talking specifically about killing for reasons other than necessary nutrients. I kill mice and rats in my house and yard if I ever catch them. I kill every bug I find inside my house. I do it simply because I don't like them in my space, and I value my comfort more than their life. I just want to hear some of the vegans train of thought concerning this.

what about if you ended up with bugs in your grow?

i'm not vegan but i generally do not believe in killing bugs and mice. however, i am a major puss and i am afraid of bugs, so when i get them in my house i do kill them just so i can have peace of mind, and i ended those fuckers in my grow. i refuse to kill bugs outside unless i am being accosted.

The way I look at it is, if it's causing you harm, there's nothing wrong with killing it. Same thing with wild animals, if you are at risk in any way, you gotta do what you gotta do. When it comes to something negatively affecting your life, it's a different story then simply choosing which foods to eat.

ive never had a bug problem *knocks on wood* , my outdoor ones get a few bites here and there, but never infestations
im a huge wuss too i hate spiders but when i do see em i cry a little freak out but in the end they end up outside alive

You need to get a life. If you aren't a vegan, why do you care? I personally think it's about harmony with all life. It's a Zen thing. You don't get it. I don't try to figure out why you're a murderer. You can't cultivate your mind and body if you can't connect with all life. Most humans don't have that connection with the whole world around them like most of the other animals do. There's more to life than just our comfort. That sort of thought is why so many have mental illness. Becoming so concerned with what others are doing and judging them isn't healthy. You aren't going to convince them of anything. It will just cause your stress. Unless you have friends you don't want to piss off that are vegan or considering becoming a vegan yourself, this thread is pointless.

Any type of agriculture needs to take into account animals, or your crop will be gone. If you have ever grown outdoor, you know rabbits, deer, gophers, squirrels, and just about anything will eat a nice crop if you have it going. So what is the vegan answer to that? Even using cats to guard grain stores overwinter would be a bit cruel, yes?

Say you go out to a movie or coffee etc. and come home with a bed bug attached to you. Next thing you know you have an infestation... find them one by one and put them outside? Or call an exterminator to take care of the issue? This kind of thing happens all the time

Vegans eat insects unknowingly and so do all herbivores . I have vegan friends that simply practice the old tradition of mixed gardening to deal with pests while maintaining a harmonic balance.. Marigolds keep the deer at bay and Mums keep insects away , the list goes on and on with companion gardening .

I'm human and I've killed indiscriminately, as a child I burned ants with a magnifying glass and torn the wings off flies only to feed them to spiders. I have shot, trapped and fished wild life all for the fact that I could. I have been gentle and I've been cruel in my intentions.

I sowed many a garden and raided a few, I've mended the weak and brought to an end the misery. I have done things because I'm an animal with a curiosity that knows no bounds

I'm like a month + into flower and have the adults under control from plain old sticky traps but for some reason can't get the larvae to die with the BT. Never had a bug problem before. Can't put my finger on it but thinking theycame with the soil.
