Anyways, I've been meaning to expand on this subject anyways. A few of my friends have been getting through to me a little just to learn about it. I would never BE a vegetarian. I LOVE MEAT. But to learn about it and understand some things I didn't before about the foods I'm putting in my body and ways of staying more clean health wise would be ideal. Good thread!

Maybe we should be less concerned with what each other eats and decide to turn our ire towards the real culprits. The faceless corporations which inundate the media with manipulated data based on political agendas.

If we change our diets they will have to change how they run their businesses.

I agree, but how? In which I mean, how do we go about circumventing the political power these corps have when it comes to changing the laws and regulations. From what I understand Walmart and McDonalds use so much beef on a dialy basis they actually effect the cattle business and it's practices, in reality all beef is now considered McDonalds beef {rumour has it}.

Curious as to how well some of you even know nature.
I personally have no working knowledge of farms animals, fwiw I did work at a horse racing track for a summer, I'll have to admit most of my understanding comes from reading.

Maybe I should bow out this debate, I don't want to spread gossip because it's quite possible I'm reading the wrong articles.

My personal belief is everything in moderation. A healthy diet is a must. I do eat red meat, but I have only had venison for at least 7 years. I eat what I hunt. I eat mostly fish. Walleye and Crappie, I also fish and eat what I catch. The thing I eat store bought is as far as meat, fish, or poultry is chicken. If I had a farm or they ran around in the woods I wouldnt need to buy it. I am lucky enough to have a friend that has a local diner and I get my eggs from him which a locally produced brown eggs.

How the hell would you know what animals want? Also, why would a plant need to think in order to be valuable? Plant based foods and extracts cure diseases and save lives. Humans can survive without doctors.. can we survive without plants? No. The basis of your entire argument sits on 'thinking'.. which has no merit. How do you even know plants don't try and communicate with us? Your entire post is just based off of absolutely nothing but clueless assumptions.
Why does something need to be valuable (ie valuable to human life) to deserve a right to life? Doesn't that run counter to your entire ideology?

Also plants don't think or communicate with us, at least not on any conscious level like you are implying. Talk about clueless assumptions.

Well, on a good note, at least we don't rip the animals to shreds and play tug of war with them like Lions do...

But instead of going completely vegetarian or vegan, why not just have a balanced diet? Eat in moderation, is it really that difficult to do? No offence to the Americans on this forum(I am going to be slightly stereotypical here), but moderation is not a word you guys understand when it comes to food. The size of the meals at some places are enormous! I went to Florida when I was 13 and we went out to the hard rock cafe, the food was decent, but there was so much... None of us could finish our meal and none of us were able to eat dessert You could have fed a family of 25 with what the 8 of us got on our plates. Yet, I see an American family of 6 eating the exact same meals as us(minus 2 of them) and they were eager for dessert. Astonishing stuff.
