Feel free to ask any question you might have. I know a fair bit about optoelectronics and quite a lot about electronics in general, but the purpose of this thread is to crowd-source the search for good LEDs.

I'm currently trying to organize the specs of many LEDs in a spreadsheet, so it's easier to choose which LEDs suits different purposes.

Smokingrubber- I think panels with enough juice will hold their own. I think part of the problem is DIY panels are sometimes low power. Based on Rives recommendation, I built a 300W panel, and things have been lush and colas abound. Here's one 4 weeks after flower. Vegged and flower under LED:

It takes a bit of time, due to incomplete datasheets. If for example they say the LED will deliver 100 lumen at 350 mA, but it's otherwise rated to 1500 mA, then I have to look at graphs and estimate the output at 700, 1000 and 1500 mA.

The idea is that you can choose from a drop-down menu whether to see 350, 700, 1000 or 1500 mA specs - and then compare all the LEDs.

JMD- such a spreadsheet would be so useful. Good spot for it here on RIU, as this is likely the largest concentration of serious LED-ers of any forum.

guod, absolutely fantastic link! Thank you! Quite revealing, it seems that there exists a bin P4 for XP-E2 reds already. And XM-L red too?

JMD, that spreadsheet would kick ass, especially if combined with radiometric output figures, efficiencies and maybe Inada/Tazawa "corrected" figures too! Check knnabinoides work, maybe it could work as a starting point.

I know there was an online tool for calculating umol values and combining different leds for visual spectrum charts. Too bad I have forgotten where I found it. Address was somethingsomething.co.jp if I remember correctly? Please post a link if you know it or find it!

First beta (alpha maybe..) of the spreadsheet is ready. There's still a lot of stuff I want to add, but first some feedback from you guys :)
So idea, comments and what else you might think off - let it rip!

In cell O3 you can choose to look at 350 mA, 700 mA, 1000 mA or 1500 mA specs. The spreadsheet will update automatically according to the filters you have in column B to L.

For example: You choose to only see LEDs with an output at 700 mA (it will hide whichever LEDs won't work at 700 mA) and you choose to sort according to Flux/watt. The spreadsheet will then show you the best LED in the database.

I encourage to use another format, not all of us use m$ products. :) I dabbled with something too, would be cool to see if it can be implemented to your work. Cheers!

I think Open Office is able to open it as well.

If you got LEDs you want added, just post the link to the datasheet here and I will add them.

I will work on calculating the PAR output.

Unless that's old news and you're staying with just cutting edge. For my next panels, what I don't know is if it may be better to use last generation LEDs for the savings, vs. new generation for output / efficiency. Too complicated to add prices to your spreadsheet, I was just making the case for listing 1 gen old LEDs that are popular so I could compare new to almost new tech
