Are Medibles really Medical? ~ By BluJay @ Nugs.com

"As a long standing black market turns white; Cannabis infused foods and drinks begin to emerge and become a larger portion of the Medical Marijuana industry. Marijuana Sativa which was originally criminalized in 1970 has been a popular medicine and recreational “drug” since 1619. It's these two faces of Cannabis that breaches the question; are medibles really medical? After randomly choosing only one of the thousands of popular medibles in the MMJ community “Cheeba Chew” we started to take a closer look at the ingredients and found some shocking results. “Cheeba Chew”'s ingredients include; Sugar, Corn Syrup, Soybean Oil, Milk, Cocoa, Whey, Natural Flavorings and Marijuana THC Extract (hash). For an everyday supermarket shopper; at first glance these ingredients appear “healthy”

Let’s break them down individually.

Sugar:
Is known to feed and promotes growth of cancer cells; which those patients are trying to prevent. Excess sugar also leads to unhealthy levels of blood fats. “There’s an association between added sugar intake and what we call dyslipidemia – higher triglycerides and lower HDL ("good") cholesterol, says the American Heart Association (AHA).

Corn Syrup:
Contributes to fat deposits in your liver, increasing buildup of lipoproteins, and leads to plaque buildup and narrowing of blood vessels. It also sets the stage for a number of catastrophicdiseases such as; diabetes, metabolic syndrome, damage to your immune system, Speeding-up the aging process and a numerous mercury poison dangers!

Soybean Oil: Is a completely unnatural man-made fat. It is created through the partial hydrogenation process. It causes dysfunction and chaos in your body on a cellular level. Studies have linked trans-fats to health problems ranging from obesity and diabetes to reproductive problems and heart disease. Aside from the health hazards related to the trans-fats created by the partial hydrogenation process, soybean oil is, in and of itself, NOT healthy fat. Not to forget the fact that the majority of soybeans grown in the US are genetically engineered, and as a result saturated with dangerous levels of the herbicide glyphosate, which may have additional health consequences as there are no long term safety studies completed. (GE (genetically engineered) soybeans have been found to contain residue levels as high as 17 mg/kg, and malformations in frog and chicken embryos have occurred at just over 2 mg/kg.)

Milk: *ALL* cow's milk (regular and 'organic') has 59 active hormones, scores of allergens, fat and cholesterol. Most cows’ milk has measurable quantities of herbicides, pesticides, dioxins (up to 200 times the safe levels), up to 52 powerful antibiotics (perhaps 53, with LS-50), blood, pus, feces, bacteria and viruses. (Cow's milk can have traces of anything the cow ate... including such things as radioactive fallout from nuke testing ... (the 50's strontium-90 problem). Milk is also linked to the number one killer in America “Heart Disease” (ie. fats/cholesterol: meat/dairy)

Cocoa: Cocoa contains a variety of chemicals, including antioxidants called flavonoids. It is not clear how these might work in the body, but they appear to cause relaxation of veins. This could lead to lower blood pressure and many other medicinal benefits. However it is not clear if this is 100% pure organic Cocoa. If not it could contain thousands of other chemicals and pesticides.

Whey: Whey protein is derived from cow’s milk and cheese, and is comprised of beta-lactoglobulin, alpha-lactalbumin and serum albumin. Whey protein is naturally gluten-free; however, you may be concerned about some versions of whey protein that contain peptide bound glutamine derived from wheat protein. Those products should not be used if you have celiac disease or are gluten sensitive. Possible side effects are allergies, kidney damage, increased blood acidity, digestion problems and ketosis.

Natural Flavorings: What does the term "natural flavors" really mean? Could it be that the term "natural flavors" includes genetically modified, pesticide-laden food? There are also plenty of "food products" on the shelves that read "all natural" on the label, but they still contain large amounts of synthetic, laboratory-concocted food agents, many of which cause diseases and disorders. MSG, aspartame and bugs in your food are all considered "natural flavors" and "natural colors".

Hash extract: Hash is the resin collected from the flowers of the cannabis plant. This can be done in a number of natural and commercial ways including the use of industrial solvents; some known to cause cancer. If extracted commercially and not properly purged of chemicals ingestion could lead to serious illness or even death.

Conclusion: This did come out rather brutal for the “Cheeba Chew” however we did notice the indigents are labeled very simply, perhaps they are much “better” ingredients and aren't properly labeled. Unfortunately that's not usually the case with food labeling; ingredients that are healthy would be labeled as so to attract customers looking for healthier foods.High fructose corn syrup and soybean oil are commonly known as two of the most lethal ingredients in much of our foods today. These ingredients along with IGF-1, sugar, Monsanto laden GMO’s, bad fats, and bacteria make medible's like this and many others like it an unhealthy alternative to other Cannabis treatments. It seems most of the medible's today are marketed to the recreational users as most registered Cannabis patients are treating terminal or lifelong illnesses. Thus these ingredients in excess could mean the difference in a successful treatment and an unsuccessful one.If patients are looking for a safer, healthy, medible alternative to smoking Cannabis, we recommend looking for a 100% natural and organic product. Gluten-free, soy-free and dairy-free product's will only increase the quality of the food. Look for products infused with organic/natural/healthy oils like coconut or grape seed. Remember, you don't have to be a patient with “special” food needs to enjoy a healthy product. Every-body (pun intended) deserves and needs good wholesome ingredients in their diet."

I was asked to write this article for Nugs.com. Not partial or un-partial to Cheba Chew, just part of the job. Comments, commendations? LOL bongsmiliebongsmiliebongsmilie

so what you're pretty much saying is that all foods are bad for you.. well, any foods that contain sugar, milk, whey, cocoa, soy bean, corn syrup, or natural flavorings??

imvho, your piece is more about the harms of being a human being and eating food, and nothing to do with medibles. :D

You will have to remember the context is solely around medibles being "medical". I realize there are a majority of RIU users that are not using Cannabis to heal from a terminal illness. However if a terminally ill patient were to rely on say Cheba Chew to heal from a brain tumor. It would likely be unsuccessful due to the large number of "contaminates" the patient is ingesting alongside the Cannabis.

It just proves, the market is still focused on recreational users. Patients who want to heal at this time; unfortunately need to know how or know a caregiver who has the know how to assist them in making whatever it is that they need.

Thanks for the comment! :blsmoke:

medibles are indeed medical..

22 year chronic pain patient here speaking.. I was on the entire gamet of pain meds for back/shoulders.sleep antidepressants from ultracet - morphine etc .. now 100% big pharma free as of 6-13 1 year no meds from them at all.. just MJ 85% of my grow was used in medibles

it's what you make from the MJ that can screw with you.. new study released today shows how bad 3 cans of soda with sugar are for you..

it's going to vary with each and every person..

my fav recipe is MJ in peanut butter.. now to some this works great and other it does nothing but put them to sleep.. and it can kill some folks technically speaking if they are allergic to peanut butter..

the real issue is that the HYPE on MJ is all about the HIGH how much THC is in it not the CBD/CBN's

for me the smoking portion does a small part of what the medibles do.. however the smoking part is almost instantly effective and the medibles take 1-3 hours to work on some folks.. medibles last me from 2-5 hours smoking about 30-60 mins

At least we know you'rs and mine are. lol

Good to see you've taken your health into your own hands. You sound like me minus a few plant based extracts I am still taking for headaches. I would love to not have to swallow another capsule.
