not gonna do light rails, not gonna go to 1000s. i have always run 400 watters, and i have already bought the new lights.

why 400 watters?

because i can pick them up for $30 a piece, everything included (even the lamp).

i need the stove to cook, and the dryer to dry my clothes (can't hang them on the clothesline in a portland winter).

so how do we optimize three 400 watters given basically unlimited space for them?

I vote stadium vert...10 feet long. The overlap on those three 400's should give you enough to work with length wise, and the stadium covers the lack of a wide footprint. I dunno...Just popped in my head.

not gonna run CO2.
well then good luck with that

sounds like you already have your mind made up

just because "you have always ran 400's" doesn't mean you have always been maximizing your yields. In fact it sounds like you haven't if you are yet to break .5gpw

light rails are the cat's ass for maximizing yield on limited power consumption but............................ok then

just tryn to be helpful here.

you asked, I answered

I am impressed with your greenhouses bro. Don't have any experience with greenhouses myself but i've ALWAYS grown indoors sooooooooooooooo

take it for what it is.

The boys in another thread got buckys panties in a bunch and he's upset with us all, again. lol

Hey Buck, theres a cool site called riu.org where this question has been answered 50,000 times before.
You're not the first to have limited space or electric.

Is calling something "the cat's ass" a good thing or bad?

I ask because I do like light movers but hate cats so kinda puts me in a pickle here.
lmao@ this+++

hey buck, for a guy who has such impressive outdoor grows you sure sound like a cheap bastard for your indoor venture.

If you have never flowered under 1000's then you really don't know what you are missing and will never see truly impressive results. been there tried that.

Also, what's your problem with movers?

edit: i've several 400 ballasts I would almost give away. They've been on the shelf for years and will never get used by me again.

I use t5s to veg. now up to a coupla weeks then I move em under a 1000mh to finish up veg. for the last coupla weeks.

T5s!
Buck will tell you to"
  • Try a CFL grow.

try a running go fuck yourself.

    alternatively, try being useful.

Thank you++

you should see my air cooled hoods working on their respective movers! Took a while to get them working right but they move perfectly and the flexible duct accordions up nicely at each end of the run.

I am quite proud of this accomplishment. Huge pita to replace the flex hose 2x a year tho.

Reminds me, I need to check the flex for pinholes.

Years and grows ago I had a system almost set up like that.
Movers, ventilation, auto feeding all built with spare parts.
A true labor of love.

I ran stainless wires through the flex and hoods and anchored them to the walls on each end of the room to keep the flex straight. Otherwise it just flops all over hell. I also put small turnbuckles on the end so I can keep the wire nice and tight.

Yes, definitely a labor of love. When I have to replace the movers I may go with a different mfg. as the intelidrives are prone to slipping too much. Especially with new flex hose and these huge xxxl hoods I use now. once the flex gets broke in they slip less. I keep a couple of spare drive wheels on hand when I change the flex.

Can't complain tho like I said the first mover I bought was in 02' and my second was purchased in 04' Guess I should knock on wood bout this.

Hey buck, sounds good. Im not a fan of co2 either but i think the light mover idea could possibly be the only thing short of reinventing the wheel to help you out if you want to roll how you do. If you want another efficiant option check out dst s grow.....his indoor one with the vertical cool tube 600s in the cylinder design. Or get creative with a nft. All the best.

tear down plaster on the ceiling.

grow the plants all the way up to the ceiling then put the lights in the roof and flower.. use the ceiling joist and battens as a screen for a scrog style grow

I understand that, but you can still utilize these breakers for your purposes too very easily. Only cook or do laundry during lights out. That frees up a lot of juice you could put to use. If you are serious about doing the indoor thing. Dryer is 30amps, stove is probably 50 amps. That's a lot of lights bro. you could easily run a temporary wire to those breakers to serve your purposes and remove it when you leave.

But if you are dead set on using 400's it sounds like you're not too serious about your indoor.
400's are for peoples closets man. Not lighting up a whole room.

just wanted to see what you guys would do in my position.

i've got a spare bedroom that is 10.5' x 14.5 feet. sadly, it only has 15 amps to work with, so we're limited to 1200 watts between three 400w lights.

temp control is easy, i can crack a window and let fresh, cool, air balance out the heat from the lights. smell is not an issue and i can vent anywhere i want, straight out the window or up to the attic.

i want to know what the great minds at RIU would do to maximize yield.

my initial, half baked plans are the following: the three lights will hang down from the ceiling vertically. under each one will be a kiddy pool. the kiddy pool will be on top of a little frame with caster wheels so i can spin it around like a lazy susan. i might even put lazy susans inside the kiddy pool too to make rotating the plants easier.

i'm not even sure whether i should kick my own ass for such a stupid idea, or pat myself on the back for innovating a makeshift vertical grow.

the goal is to maximize yield out of these three lights. any guidance, criticism, angry tirades, or dick pics are welcomed.
Absolutely go vertical

Everything I've read says vertical growing increases yield

Traditional growing you lose efficiency

Do it

i thought i had made it pretty clear from the very first post that i was working with three 400 watters.

movers are by definition extra moving parts. i like to avoid extra moving parts in favor of keeping things simple.

i am a cheap bastard with both indoor and outdoor grows. it's a weed. light, air, soil, water...it's not complicated.

i will reiterate that i am looking for suggestions on how to maximize the lights i have in the room i have. not interested in running extension cords across the house to the oven, or sealing a room for CO2, or light movers, or anything else superfluous.

no offense.
