Sweet! I will definitely be referring to this thread for my next grow. One other question dealing with feminized seeds. Now I've read a lot of debate about feminized seeds, how they're produced, and what kinds of traits they take on. Is feminized seeds the way to go? I've read that they come from female plants which were intentionally stressed to turn hermie and that plants grown from feminized seeds, no matter the quality of grow, will never be as nice as grown from regular seeds, I guess it has to do with the genetics of a plant getting so stressed out to turn hermie and then breeding. Does this have any truth to it?

You can make your own fem seeds using Colloidal Silver.

A couple weeks into flowering they turn female plants, or branches of fem plants, male to pollenate the rest with FEMENIZED pollen. creating feminized seeds.

Hermaphroditic inbreeding is what you're talking about and I'm not sure if the major seed breeders use this method. The method I'm more familiar with, and one which I know a lot of the seed breeders use to create fem seeds, is hermaphroditic breeding, taking a hermied female and breeding with a regular male.

But the original question still remains, will feminized seeds produce equal quality plants as regular seeds. Opinions? Experience? Comparisons?

One last question, this is probably just opinion but who knows there might be an insider lurking somewhere, is the Cannabis Cup just a dog and pony show popularity contest or is it a legit contest to find the world's best strains?

I think it started off as a legit competition for growers to showcase their strains but with everything leading towards the almighty dollar and seed companies making millions of dollars in the current day I can't help but think the whole thing is as phony as a 3 dollar bill.

Both.... It costs money to enter. and you pay your own way there.
not much is truly won as a prize besides the popularity of the strain....
so in the end unless you are a breeder and have a steady supply of seeds available to seedbanks....
I wouldn't suggest even thinking about it......... Just an opinion.

but I know it DOES cost some coin to get in the door as a breeder.

Usually when held in the US, dispensaries and Collectives will put up their best.
but like I said before I am not sure of any prizes actually won.....

You'd have to google that.

Oh, no, I wasn't thinking about entering. God no, not with my lack of knowledge and experience. I was just pondering the legitimacy of the competition.

Not what I am talking about. you're talking about breeding a hermed female with a male. and NO not what you do for fem seeds.

What they do(BREEDERS) is Spray a clone or 2 with Colloidal Silver until they become MALE. Or they do this to a branch of a female.

With the pollen sacs originating from a female turned male. you in the end have Feminized pollen.
They DONOT use Regular males to create feminized seeds. it would create a regular seed.

This is how you breed females with females....... It may sound strange to you but it is done very often... BY BREEDERS......

another method is called Rodelization. google that and read the Soma's page............ Those are the only 2 ways I am aware of to create feminized seeds...

Again you cannot use a regular male grown from seed to create feminized seeds..

Experience- I've grown 5 feminized strains before this grow and I've got 3 going right now. along with 9 regular strains(one being auto).......

Feminized seeds show sex sooner(IMO) than regular seeds.(all of my fems planted the same day as regs are sexed already. only the Auto's are sexed on my reg strains. and they are CREEPING if you ask me.

Feminized seeds produce the same exact quality and quantity as regular seeds.

I have never heard of a breeder keeping a hermed plant in their grow. if it was not hermed on purpose using T mist or Colloidal Silver, then they would cull them. Regular herms(Not induced) produce herm seeds.

Okay so I'll just buy feminized seeds seeing as the chances of getting female plants are largely increased. Someone, respectable grower too, told me that feminized seeds grown from hermied plants produce lesser quality than those grown from a regular seed.

Perhaps this is what he was talking about. Thanks anyway for setting the record straight. Saved me a lot of headache buying fem seeds instead of regular ones.

Fem seeds produce 100% female plants. you can have some stress induced herms in the bunch but when your environment is perfect and no stress(Heat, water, light, ect.) then they should be fine.

You can make your own too. I'm going to be.... I've got 12 strains to breed back and cross.... possibilities are ENDLESS lol....(or 144...lol)
