How do you water a 5gallon bucket? How much water?

I am about to transplant into a 5gallon bucket. I was wanting to know how do you water in a 5 gallon bucket? I mean I mix nutes in a 1gallon jug now. But in a 5gallon bucket, do I need to mix 5gallons of mixed nutes? Or can I water with a water hose for a couple of minutes then add the 1 gallon of mixed nutes nutes? Or do I ph maybe 2 gallon of water then add 1 gallon of water with mixed nutes? I think if I have to mix 5gallons of nutes, it would be a waste. I know its a stupid question but with the plant In have now. I water once a day with just 1gallon of water. So moving up to a 5gallon bucket is alittle confusing.

Water plants gently first, mix up 5 gallons of food in a bucket, ph balance, then feed. Mixing in big batches is SWEET. I mix 275 gallons at a time :)

so if my plant food says 2tsp per gallon. I would mix 10tsp? so does it take a 5gallons of water to water a plant in a 5gallon bucket? Or just water till I get alittle runoff?

yep 10 tsp. And if your plant is in a 5 gallon planter/container I would only feed a gallon or so. No need to waste food.

No offense to GB, I don't think a 5 gallon bucket is going to need 5 gallons of nutes. I would mix up 1 or 2 gallons of nutes and give it to her. 1 gallon might even be enough. Be sure you have plenty of drain holes in your bucket. When you see the run off come out you have watered or feed enough.

ok thank you. Thats what I was thinking. I thought 5gallons of food would be alot to give. So I could feed 2gallons of mixed nutes, then next watering would be 2gallons of water. feed/water/water/feed?

None taken man, I only recommend a gallon or so (post before yours) :)

I grow in 5 gallon containers also water 3 to 5 days depending on the size plant in the container and the weather. That being said they get a gallon of water with their tea mixed in I place the plant container in a bigger tub and water. I allow the plant to sit there for an hour of more to suck up the run off, works great for me, haven't had a over water problem and when it doesn't suck it up you know that you basically are watering too soon.

I got a 51/2" plant in a10gal. Smartpot and water it with at least 2gal. everyday, if I don't it will start drooping. Temps here are hot, in the 90's today, and its windy everyday. Also smart pots seem to really go through a lot of water. Ill definitely be using more smartpots next year, this year I was just experimenting with one of them.

I was going to ask if he gave you some free soil but he is probably not driving around with bags of soil on the seat...
