First Success- Second Success - Third - imminent failure!! =(

My first cycle was great 8oz 1 plant.

Second cycle great 8oz 1 plant same strain.

This cycle I have 3 plants, 1,800w of lights, and running a new strain along the old one.

Pictures are uploaded in chronological order. No idea whats going on, been one thing after another. Trying to salvage this but pretty sure it is what it is. =(

Sucks!! $1,000 invested in this cycle just out the window - down the drain.

We are in week 3 flower and the bad news began to occur.

First yellowing of lower leaves at center, that spread to top.

Second root rot across all plants.

2 of the plants have managed to put down roots, but the third - and my original strain is the one that is croaking. No roots grew back, and shes just withering away.

Really they are all so sad. The rest of the pictures from birth for these are on my other PC and inaccessible ATM.
Help!? =((((

That shit sucks! what was your res temp at??

And how did you spend 1000 bucks on just one run of plants????? Are you using AN or something haha

It also looked like they were getting bleached on the tops.

Res usually sits at a max of 70. And about $300 of nutes, using cyco series. And another $700 on electricity to run the 2,500w of juice to the room after fans, etc.

Yes it sucks major. Expecting at least 1.5lbs, looking like 2 oz! :(

Ran them the exact same way as the first two with the exception of adding a few more nutes from the cyco series.

And they were close to the lights at first, and one still is 6" away or so, but the other two are pretty far from lights, not to mention I've got 2 440cfm fans, and a 75cfm booster inline as well pulling air from outside, through the hoods and out the room. Temperatures remain around 68 during night time, and 70-80 during lights on.

Id highly recommend switching to a soil-less medium like promix.

Youd be able to use everything you have now, youd just need to convert it to a drip system for soil-less and fill those buckets up with promix or whatever soil-less medium is available.

Ive been debating switching to hydro for years and everytime i come close i see stuff like this happening. Im stickin to promix till death. but i want to incorporate an auto watering system.

I intend on building boxes and dropping garbage bags in them, filling the bags up, and after the cycle will just be able to pick the bags up - tie them up - toss them out.

Was planning to use 100% perilite. So sad at my plants atm. =( Depressing every time I walk in the room.

Ive seen a few all perlite grows and they turn our pretty good. but you can beat the reliability of soil/soil-less.

Also id recommend getting some pots or making a way to drain the boxes youre making. Because excess water sitting in the bottom of your box will lead to root rot the same as the hydro.

Or get growing bags, which are basically plastic bags sturdy enough to hold dirt and stay upright. They have em in pretty big sizes.

Or have you heard of smart pots? Theyre a canvas pot that has handles on it.

Very widely used, especially for outdoor growers who cant plant in the ground becaue theyre light weight, and have sized from less than 1 gallon up to 400+ gallons.

How do you run the ProMix? Organics? Nutes?

The boxes will have a drainage system, and I figured a good bit of holes in the bottom should suffice. But those smart pots aren't bad. Are they reusable - or do they degrade?

Also, the only issue I see with Perilite is...

What do you do with 60 gallons of perilite every few months? Bury it in the ground? Lol. Can't set it on fire as I usually do.

Im pretty sure you can just clean off perlite with some bleach and water. Let it soak then rinse and let it soak with plain water then let it dry out. I'm pretty sure bleach will work fine.

As to the smart pots they are reusable and fairly sturdy and don't break down fast from what I've seen.

Just add a little perlite to the bottom of my air pots then fill em up. I have used organic nutes for a while, Blue Planet Nutrients, and now I'm runnin the synth line of nutes they have. Gonna test out some dyna grow and pomix in my small cab grow.

Pics 19&20 show light burn big time.

Up to 80 deg...I'll BET your root systems overheated...as pics 10&11 are showing signs of root heat stress...Bad things happen fast in Hydro when roots go over 70 deg. Some strains really have a hard time over 70 deg roots in water and those other runs were durring colder months eh?
Expensive nutes - change out for fresh how often? How much in res at full and how do you add back to them (nute mix ratio) as they appear to have a condition that could be caused by elevated P&K. How low does the res get be for you add back?

You should do more trimming on the branch's below the canopy level as this will increase bud size and quality. Interior leaf die off is due to lack of light penetration.

I wonder,,,are their any "black" spots on the roots anywhere? does/did the Ph fluctuate in odd ways that it didn't do before? The plants show what COULD be signs of root aphids.

I'll have more after your answers.....

The one plant shot straight to the light, so I redid the whole room and used metal shelving for a net. They are better positioned now.

I feel the water often with my finger and its always cool. 15 gallon res. And yes it was during colder months!

Yes, I change them out every Wed, I flush really well, clean out res with sponge, and refill & dump res 2-3 times before finally filling it back up again to use for nutes.

I put all Nutes in at the same time Every Wed. PH usually hangs around 6.0-7.0.

I generally just let the res run until the next week, it drops probably 7 gallons in a week. Last cycle used much more and for only one plant but the root system was 10x the size of these 3 put together. =/

I haven't tended these well, as I just had a baby and he has been more important than my ladies. =/ Generally I trim at least 20-30% 2 weeks into flower, but as I said I haven't tended to them this cycle pretty much at all except to change nutes. Kind of wanted to see where they would end up.

No bugs of any kind, no black spots. We started the clones in cups of perilite, and then transferred them to the net pots. The one plant that is just completely yellow, has 0 roots coming out of it. 0!

Be damn glad it's NOT root aphids!!!!

Yuppers I suspect the roots over heated at some point....H202 might have helped but with that problem it's like 50/50.
Try to keep the Ph between 5.8 - 6.2 and 6.0 is golden! 7.0 is high and that limits some micro nute absorption so that can look like the high P&K problem! Low PH is far worse then high,,but 7.0 is to high!

The plant with no roots is in effect "dead", it's feeding off it's self to attempt to continue it's line (get pollinated and make babies).

Now then, the res,,,,,,The over heat most likely happened at "low tide" when your res was at it's lowest. Summer temps can be quite unstable with high spikes that can make hydro plants have sudden root die offs.....
A simple way to avoid this problem is to add back daily!! Now there are some rules to this..RULE 1.. Add back at a 30% ratio for your nutes!!! An example would be that if you use 10ml per gallon to make your feed solution,,,you would only use 3ml to make "add back" solution....RULE 2....When you reach the point that the total ACCUMULATED amount of "add back" would be the same as the total volume of the res.....dump res and refill with fresh, full strength nutes... BONUS = you'll save some $ on those nutes....PPM's of your res will increase as it gets lower and attempting to PPM to the original PPM by add back is not quite so easy as it sounds. So this simple guide line formula should work out for you quite well in the future.

Use a silica supplement? as that helps heat tolerance.
USE the zyme from cyco if you don't already. Or better yet use Hesi's as it's just been independently tested as the best on the market!

Good Luck

Thank you Dr. Who, I appreciate it. I bought PH Powder, and I just don't like it... Got to use so much of it for the ph to go down, and then the PPM is through the roof! =/

Lately I have just been letting the PH be what ever it is. Lol I guess I am going to cut them down then, try to find some worthy clones and go from there.

Ph powder? Try a liquid Ph down and up solution. I like Mad Farmers, no dye's and the down is a combo that is stronger then most by around 50% so you use less and NO PPM changes...

Have you spent $15 on Mel Franks Insiders Growers guide and spent a few hours reading books on the basics of indoor plant culture? Books that can be checked out from your local library.

Better luck next time,

Betcha been using bloom foods, eh? I can spot the damage a mile off every time. What are the NPK values of the foods you've been using?

What did you change from the first gardens to this one?

Using Cyco Bloom A + B, Silica, Sugar Rush, Dr Repair, B1 Boost, potash, swell, and General Hydro Floralicious.
Used Cyco Pot Ash the first 4 weeks, then started swell. Never together.

Last grow I used only A+B, Silica, Dr Repair, B1 Boost, swell, and Floralicious.

So this cycle Sugar Rush, and PotAsh are my only additions.

Will do the additions in the morning and report back.

Started cutting the plant with no roots down tonight, sad story there guys.
