will this be enough to cool it down, the ac itself will be about 7 feet from the plants and the closet doors are taken off.

Definitely I have a tent zipped up ac about 9 feet away and temps are 72-80 tops

Seconded, i ran a small 5k btu in a 4x4 with a 400w open hood. Had to turn it down a bit and still 72f at canopy. Works great.

theres a window directly across from the closet, i have the ac set to 60 degrees hoping that will keep the temps at 73-81. i will be making a journal once everything is set up.

not really any exhaust.. its in a closet in an empty small room, with an ac with the all the doors off so its just a steady flow of ac thru the entire room

the tempature of the room is 60 degrees i just wanna make sure with the hps it wont get to hot in that room

Anything larger than a closet when combined with HID's weather they are 6's 1000's etc... Need larger, but for a 400, in a small (and i mean small) a 5k btu should work.
I have a 5x5 with a 1000 watt, and should have bought a much larger AC, the 5kbtu does very little when combating serious heat.

bigger is better in my opinion... id rather have one that shuts on and off then have one running all the time. i use a 10k btu for my 600w and its more then enough. paid 60 for it at the pawn shop.. best deal ever

the one i have is a 10000 btu, it keeps the room at a steady 60 degrees, ive tested to see how hot the hps gets without any fan blowing or ac, and it gets up to 95 degrees. So with an ac i hope it will kick it down to about 79-83 degrees.
