HID light questions

Hey guys, I have a few questions about HID lights. My first grow I used cfl lights and I want to bump it up lol well anyways I was looking in home Depot and I seen they had some metal halide lights and high pressure sodium lights. I was thinking about a 400w or 1000 bulb. when I looked at them both neither gave the kelvin range of what they were. are they both rated at 6500? Also they both require a ballast correct? can you also get them at home Depot or Lowes? I tried doing so research but I can seem to find anything. Thanks in advance!

Amazon eBay and ur local grow shop might be better for a ballast.

most hardware stores dont stock anything over 75-150 w hid bulbs
the kelvin rating depends on the bulb
MH bulbs tend to be in the 5000k + range
and hps in the 2000k - 2700k range
if you get a digital ballast alot of them will fire both bulbs

IMO- if your on a tight budget, and can't afford a Horticultural light I'd buy a cheap home depot bulb. If you can afford it get a horticultural bulb, there engineered for growing plants.
