First grow total noob questions

Hey guys,

I'm growing 3 Iced Widowed plants as of 2 days ago. I'm using Fox Farms Happy Frog soil and the PH sits at 6.8ish.

Should I lower it?? And during veg I was told to not add nutes for about a month and to keep my water at a PH of 6.5 then bump it up to around 6.8 during flower.

How would I go about lowering or raising the soils ph??

I KNOW, total noob :P any help is appreciated and thanks before hand!

Leave the soil where it is. Get some nutes. Fox farm are fine. The three pack for soil. Or dyna gro Grow and Bloom.

Feed all the way til the end of flowering but dont start until the plants are a little bigger. Probably 2 weeks or so.

That's good soil so you can probably skip nutes for right now until a few weeks when they're larger. But make sure to use 1/4 the recommended nutes when you do start adding nutes to them, then it's kinda guess and check. Just making sure they don't have any deficiencies and you're not overfeeding them.

But for PH 6.5-6.8 is fine as long as it's in between there. No need to change anything right now. The biggest problems people have on their first grow is worrying too much and adding shit in that shouldn't be added and changing things that don't need to be changed. If you notice anything that worries you make sure to ask people on here before even adding water to the plant.
To lower the PH you can use lemon juice mixed with water. and to raise it you can use calcium carbonate mixed with water (possibly filtered).

Myself I have several from seed. I normally feed them some nutes after 2 weeks. Get a PH meter. I use flora nova grow and flora nova bloom. Normally your nutes lowes you PH. So make sure to keep your PH 6.5 6.8.. STILL a bit lower than 6.0 is ok no worries but higher than 7.0 not good. Also I spray them with just water once a day, after like 4-5 weeks I spray them twice a day.

What's your goal for the grow? I see you're in the Organics forum, so I'm guessing you want to grow organically. That means the Fox Farms liquid nutrient line is a bad idea, as it IS NOT organic.

*First off, I highly reccomend you NOT try to chase the perfect pH in organic soil by adjusting it with chemicals. It will end up causing you problems. The pH of your organic system is not determined (or really affected, for that matter) by the pH of the solution you pour over it. Just let the soil microbiology take care of that for you. Don't measure it, don't adjust it, and don't worry about it.

*If you want to use bottled nutrients for this first grow, I recommend one of two routes: Earth Juice (grow, bloom, and Catalyst would get uou started) or Neptunes Harvest (Fish and Seaweed blend). Either of these will benefit from bubbling in a bucket for 24 hours before you feed. Just measure out a half strength concentration in a bucket, and bubble it with an aquarium air pump.

Dont worry about feeding until they are 2-3 weeks old, and start low, like 1/4 strength.

Next grow, check out some of the soil mixes that people are working with. If you don't add any chemical nutrients to your soil this round, you'll be left with some good soil you can reammend and recycle for next round.

Cheers,

Bad ass, thanks for all the advice everyone.

As for nutes I bought BMO's line off of ebay. I was given a fair amount of stuff when I bought my set up, but for the most part I think they're for hydorponics.

002.jpg
005.jpg Extra soil that I haven't used, any good?
015.jpg My little set up. Temo stays from 73-79. Hasn't hit 80 yet during the hottest times of day. Humidity sits at 48-55, good enough?

Also should I add some molasses to my water the first couple of weeks?

Nice setup!

I haven't personally used the BMO line or that soil, but they should work out for you. These days I mix up my soil from scratch and use dry ammenents like seed meals, fish bone, rock dusts, etc... But, the route you're taking is a good place to start while you learn how plants work.

Of that assortment of nutrients you have there I see only 3 things that are organic: Fox Farms Big Bloom, molasses (well, maybe organic, close enough), and bat guano. The rest I wouldn't let anywhere near my soil (especially those powdered "boosters" from Fox Farm).

As for using molasses, I'd stick with just one or two times during bloom (perhaps week 2 and week 5). No more than 1 TBSP per gallon. Some use more, some less. These days I rarely add molasses at all, other than as an ingredient in compost teas.

Good luck!

Kick ass, thanks man.

I've noticed a lot of people like brewing teas. Could anyone point me in a good direction for that?? Possibly a seedling brew/veg/flower recipe that's easy enough for me not to totally screw up while using FFHF lol.

Thanks!

For teas, give these a read. Let us know if you have questions after doing your homework.

Well, looks like i have quiet the read ahead of me lol, thanks man.
I'm about 5 pages into the first link, that guy knows his shit AND he breaks it down easily enough for noobies like me.

IMG_0889.jpgday 5 since they first sprouted. The one in front seems to grow like a mad man, I had to readjust a fan because it's leaf was bending over the solo cup. It's already the width of it in less then a week with the 2nd set of true leaves showing. THIS SHIT'S ADDICTING! and it's only been a week :(

I have fish bone meal and worm castings and bat guano, also some extra perlite. Also about 1 4/5 cubic feet of FF happy frog in a big bucket in the garage. Would those be good things to mix with my FFHF and water down for a few weeks before i transplant?

like lets say mix 2 cups of the EWC, maybe 1/2 C of bat guano, 1/4 C fish bone meal, and maybe like 4-5 cups of extra perlite to 2 cubic feet of FFHF.

Let me know if yall think that's reasonable because I'm going to mix it tonight and put about half a gallon of water and stir it in on it to sit on for a few weeks before I transplant into my final pots.

ended up just using 3 scoops of EWC - 4 scoops of perlite mixed in 2 CF of fox farms HF

Brewed a cup of ewc - 3/4 tbsp molasses, 1 tsp fish bone meal, 2 tsp bat guano high in P in a gallon of filtered h20. Going to dilute it later 1:1 and cook my soil with it for a few weeks, sound legit?

Be careful not to overwater.

Hmm, i usually let the soil dry and water every couple of days, just enough to where a little water comes out the bottom of the cup so i know it has soaked through. maybe I'll dig a little deeper in the soil to make sure it isn't damp.
