how many Watts is too many

4000 - 6000 watts will draw attention, otherwise I wouldnt worry... my computer has a 1000 watt power supply, allthough I dont max it out all the time, I do have 4 computers running in my home office, as well as other kinds of equipment which uses alot of electricity. My friends have told me my office alone uses more watts than my grow. My guitar amp alone is another 100 watts.
Most big screens are somewhere near 400 watts or more.

you gotta think about all the people with welders in their garage and other shop equipment that use up tons of watts. if youre running 2000 watts youre fine.

the biggest concern on how many watts is too many is what your main will take... generally, a couple few thousand watts is ok.

from what i have read, most circuits or fuses or whatever controls the power flow, only start taking real bumps at 2500-3000 watts in a room. ust my interpetation however.

If you pay your bill on time, why would they care, unless its a huge increase and it could be seen as broken equipment?

If you have 2000+ watts I would just avoid starting all the lights at exact same time, put a 10min buffer or something depending on how many watts your starting up.

I was running close to 5,000 watts with a monthly bill around $350. I did get a call from the power company asking about the increased usage. I explained that i work from home (operating my computer consulting business). computer are notorious for using a lot of electricity, especiaslly 5-6 of them. no problem
