Newbie here...!...First time grow and nerves about harvesting.... My Plant Trichomes

are milky but only see (just noticed today) maybe a total of five to eight amber colored ones..... I have already flushed two days ago.... now wondering if I wait till I see a few more before putting it to night/dark for 48 hours or should I start right now.... because I don't know how fast do trichomes change to amber once they are milky... ( ? ) .... are they going to change fast over night and 48 hours be too long ?

My second question is should I leave the circulating fans running while it sits in the dark or will this cause the buds to dry out quicker since I stopped watering...?....

I was just reading this on another thread, cant remember which one....if my memory serves me right the ideal ratio is something like 10% amber, 85% milky, 5% clear.
Trichomes can change rather quickly so it's wise to check your plant every 12 hours when you know she's close.

Putting it in the dark? I don't bother (show me the science) & I don't flush (It's funny how some swear they can taste if a plant wasn't flushed, yet they can't tell mine wasn't haha)

If you must stick your girls in the dark then a gentle fan breeze would be a good idea.

If your trichs are mostly cloudy with some amber, sounds like it's time :weed: Agree 200% with GreyLord, watch em close cuz they can go from "almost done" to "overdone" fast (in less than 24 hours). I don't flush or do the dark thing either. But I always have a breeze on the girls, indoors.

Good luck and let us know how it goes :eyesmoke:

Brother...........Thank you sir - and your right, I haven't read ANY where on the web supporting the dark thing..... Thanks again for the input.

i have never seen an "overdone" plant. I'd bet that the majority of plants are harvested early, before peak THC production.

What you want, is the plant to max out trichome production. You want the highest concentration of the highest THC containing trichomes. When they amber, the THC is degrading. When they are smaller and clear, the THC has not reached maximum potency.

When more trichomes are going amber than new, clear trichomes are being produced, its time to harvest. This should be when the buds are covered in mostly mushroom looking, milky trichomes with full, erect heads.

But I think trichomes should only be looked at when the rest of the plant looks ready. Are the stigma brown/orange and shriveled into the bud? Are the buds full and plump with swollen calyxes? Have some of the leaves started to yellow & die?

...i forget your style of grow man but if it's not organic then one flush before harvey won't be enough to wash out all the chem nutes, ...i grow in coco hempy buckets and i feed Jack's Pro Hydro and i flush every day for the last 14 days, ...if you're fan leaves aren't yellowing you need to keep flushing, daily, until they do start yellowing.

peace, bozo

You can chop them anytime after you see full cloudy. I tend to chop at about 30% amber. But strains differ so it will be up to you when you chop if you want couchlock go with more amber. if you you want a more head high go less amber. Yes you should keep air on them all the time.

Your welcome m8. Some say that certain strains benefit from 48-72 hours of darkness before cultivating. Idk? I haven't experimented simply because when they're ready they're ready :)
What strain are you growing? I just finished 3 WhiteShark clones - hardly grew when changed to 12/12 so quantity was disappointing, 30g per plant, but the smoke is awesome - Just finishing a BlackSugar [ that has no dark leaves at all] not very 'sugary' but nice & a WW x Amnesia [looks like trichomes growing on trichomes!] & a WhiteWidow. I'd post pics but dunno how [technologically challenged]
