I've been able to take decent close up pictures of trichromes using a cell phone camera and a 40x jewelers loupe. Just hold the loupe to the camera lens, and that is it.

It took a couple mins of messing around to get a good picture, but it came out better than I thought considering my cell phone is around 3 years old, and I was under HPS lights.
This is my Chernobyl right before harvest
