Any effort to not be a dumbass is likely to be welcome. There is so much information on this site..read especially the "stickies" at the top of each forum. Choose a method of growing that suits your situation. If your situation does not include having your own place in which to grow..you probably need to grow before you grow weed

The best insight I can give you is to buy a book by a well-known grower. When you have specific questions, come here and check the stickies first. The info in the stickies has generally stood the test of time. There are a lot of skilled growers here, but there are a lot of posers, too. A newbe won't be able to tell the difference. That and tell no one, and I mean no one, that you're growing pot. Even if you're legal.
If your new. start reading sub cools super soil in the organic section.Purchase a medical marijuana growers bible and read it..then refer to it for general reference .
If your growing soil ill let you in a secret that will help you avoid most of the newbie mistakes made.One is if your growing with soil like most new people do ADD GARDEN LIME AND AZOMITE WITH A PINCH OF EPSON SALT TO THE SOIL.Garden lime you can get from your local lumber yard like lowes.Use at the rate of a two table spoons a gallon of dirt with about a tea spoon of azomite and a pinch of epson salt between your fore finger and thumb.These couple of cheap inexpensive things will save you HUGE headache and poor results in the not to distant future.ALWAYS ADD GARDEN LIME TO THE SOIL NO MATTER WHAT.Azomite you can normally get at the local hydro store or they can order it for you.Epson salt you can get at the local drug store.
Garden lime 5 bucks for a 40 lb bag,azomite around 40 bucks for a 40 lb bag,the epson salt about 5 bucks for a large box at the drug store.40 lbs of azomite will last you a decade probably.Many growers will take years to use a 40 lb bag of garden lime.(for some reason everyone on here likes calling it dolomite lime)If you use this term at the local lumber yard purchasing lime you will get clueless look.

Maybe the newbie would like to know why you are telling him to use this stuff? Or, is that in your grow book/bible also?
Find out the ambient temp/RH for your basement...You may need a dehumidifier if basement RH is over 60%... fresh air in and out to start...

I grow in my basement. I run 2 tents, flower and veg. check out my sig. most of the beginning of the thread of boring waiting for the seeds to germ, but it gets better. its very detailed. I didn't buy any books, but I did a TON of research before I started my grow (about 3 months worth on the net). the very first thing you need to consider is this, if your legal, cool. keep it with in your legal limits and tell no one. if your illegal, TELL NO ONE!!!!!!!! the next is electricity. you WILL (or highly recommended) you should have dedicated power pulled from your box just used for your grow. I pulled 4 20amp lines from my breaker box and all my grow power is being pulled from those 4 lines.
