Oh, I feel you. In my apartment, when the wallet gets light, the food gets white.

Throw some cayenne pepper on that with some salsa, or just go the classic way and throw some cinnamon and brown sugar on it. Killer.

I feel badly for any person who goes hungry. It's one of the reasons I donate regularly to a local food bank.

I do have to say though.... the government does NOT OWE YOU anything..... unless perhaps you are a soldier who was wounded and is not able to work. If that is the case then I certainly would agree that you are OWED money to eat.

Whatever your situation.... I hope things turn around for you soon :D

Meh, this can be highly debatable.

Although it's not an opinion or theory I like to advocate too much, it is pretty logical that many urban centers suffer as a result of past government oppression, social upheaval against that oppression, possible government dealings with drugs (commonly seen as a conspiracy theory, but have a look at Project MKULTRA and ask yourself if they're not capable of it), TERRIBLE urban renovation plans, etc.

All in all, I hate how stingy the government can be with supporting its own citizens (especially debt-ridden widows, from personal experience), and yet spend wildly on war and cloak-and-dagger politics. It's disgusting.

im just sayin, if you need food fine. but you have internet? bud? seems to me that money that welfare gives you should be used on things to get you earning your own money. IMO. trying not to offend.

I agree in a general manner, but I am a situational ethics kind of gal, so I prefer to examine each situation before deciding what I think.

You make a good argument.... but I can't get behind LONG TERM handouts as I believe it creates a dependence on the govt. and a burden on society.

My sister is a single mom... her ex-husband is a dead beat loser so she's never received money from him to help her raise her daughter. She is not educated and had not been in the workforce for 10 years when she divorced her husband. She did get on welfare.... for a short period of time, during which she participated in a job training program where she had to go to work and get paid NOTHING to get some on-the-job skills.

She was on welfare for approx. 1 1/2 years and then was able to make it on her own without it. Yes it was a struggle... and she had to scrape by... but she was working and paying her own way.

It's now 14 years later and she owns her own home and has a good job. Yes she still struggles.... there is NO ONE that can stretch a nickel like my sister. None the less... she is a productive member of society... paying her own way and raising her daughter to know the value of hard work and self reliance.

I believe my sister used the system as it was MEANT to be used.... as short term help to get on your feet.

I see too many people who have a sense of ENTITLEMENT to lifelong welfare. They do nothing to help themselves and teach their children too be the same way. I do NOT feel these people are entitled to this lifelong handout.

I'm EXTREMELY proud of my sister for everything she has accomplished.

It irritates me to see others in her same situation choose to let the government support them for life instead of getting off their lazy asses and making something of themselves. IMO these people are the ones you offer to "teach to fish".... but they prefer to just stand there with hand out and EXPECT you to give them a fish... day after day.

My first response is that you should get a job. Waiting around for Uncle Sugar to pay your way ain't no way to go through life.

Yesterday marks the first day of the year I actually get to keep the money I've earned. Your precious government has seized everything from Jan. 1st up until yesterday. I don't owe you anything but a stern look of disapproval.

To play devil's advocate.. somewhat, jobs are not all that easy to get depending on where you are. For instance, in September, it will be one year since I last worked. I've been looking for permanent (hell, even temporary) work since then, busting my ass to find something. But for each job I apply to, there are at least 25 others (often many, many more) competing for that same ONE job. I could try going into Sacto for work, but the cost of gas would mean that I'm working to pay for fuel. Not exactly the solution to the initial problem, is it?

Sometimes it's easier said than done is all I'm sayin'.

You are right. At the same time, I don't detect an entitlement mentality coming from your posts. I sense that you would work if you could.

I don't get that vibe from someone who claims the government owes them.

The only things I am entitled to are my privacy and my opinion. And at each interview I tell them, "I want to work!" I'm hoping it pays off soon.

What an odd time for a food stamp thread.

Lazy people are not big on my list of people i enjoy being around,i just dont understand being a slug, however i do understand people who take ALL they can get from the federal government as a means to supplement their real income,i do not approve at all how the government spends my tax money so if i can get any of it back im taking it,by any means, hook or crook im all over it.

We just got back from spending $600 at the grocery store & all it cost me was $175,i love food stamps,i love state vouchers for free car repairs,i love state vouchers for free furniture & appliances,i love the welfare system thats ran by employees to damm lazy (or stupid) to make a home inspection at apartment houses where there are only 4 units & 8 welfare cases being paid to the rental.

Dont let the non FS crowd bust your balls bro,if ya can get it take that shit, the government allready thinks your a peice of shit so why the fuk not, your welcome to have the portion of money i paid into the FS system,if you dont get it the government will just jack it off on stupidity anyways.
