wow...I didn't think this would still be around. You've guys given me some awesome reading material, and viewpoints. *Runs to Chapters to grab a few books"*
Not really going to read anyone else's posts. I've learned not to throw a hat into it when I feel like defending "religion".I've been doing alot of research lately on secret societies, and conspiracy theories concerning Globalization and the conception of "One World Government". While I wont get into that a common theme in that community is that Religion was created to Separate man from nature. To give us a false sense of entitlement, and to Push us into a mindset of elitism. Now I don't know if I personally agree with this, But I do agree while man has more reasoning skills than most other organisms we are in fact no better.
We're all equals. We're all pieces in the puzzle we call earth.

The answers you get depend entirely upon the question asked. Not really going to read anyone else's posts. I've learned not to throw a hat into it when I feel like defending "religion".
I guess I'll just say that this entire question is flawed. It completely ignores the fact that the earliest religions (many of which are still around today) WORSHIPPED nature.
But I suppose the question is more after Judeo-Christianity, so I'll let it be. As much as I hate to say it, any religion that says that you should submit to the government, not touch women who are on their periods, and broadcast a pro-slavery message are not my bag.
Then again, I could dissect many Eastern religions, but I'm tired.
religion was created as a means of controlling the masses through fear guilt and persecution...thats my thoughts .....
With all due respect, I think that those comments should be better qualified. Are you referring to all religion? If so, I disagree completely. Again, I suggest Joseph Campbell.
Thus, without clarification on every religion this question is targetting (though it isn't hard to tell), the question is irrelevant.I think by trying to generalize all religions into one "religion" is a big mistake.
