I woke up a little bit ago. Now I don't work today. Wish I new that yesterday. Anyhoo. I was up all night harvesting castings. Now I have to go finish before lights go out . I'm estimating about 1 cu ft. of vermicompost. Holy shyt so many different sizes of worms. Big ones and so many ones at the bottom that are babies. Little red worms the size of a finger nail clipping .... I'll post pics later of the pile.
How big are the eggs? I liked Stow's idea of laying everything on a tarp and putting a light over it. How long did it take till harvest? Going out to buy aloe plants today...I wanna be just like you (in a non creeper way).

I only saw 4 eggs. Little yellow pellots. Almost transparent sort of. Reminds me of those toy guns that shoot little plastic pellots from the 80's. I dumped it on a tarp too. Separated into multiple smaller piles and combed through each pile. I've had that bin going for 5 months. Harvested 1/2 of it twice. Now I harvested the whole thing. It will be 2-3 months til the next harvest
need to set up more bins.

I've read some interesting facts about red wigglers. They can eat half or as much as their body weight in a day, they're hermaphroditic but two worms are still needed to reproduce, and they skeet skeet on each other! Just looked up eggs, and it says they become more brown as they mature. You'll prob end up having some in your pots. Cool info for this dork.

It's just a regular MH 1000w magnetic. They're shipping me a replacement bulb due to all the quarts pcs floating around in it. Rep said that's common and I said not with my bulbs. I got a big aloe plant today, and foliar fed my bleached seedlings with it and coconut water. Who'd a thought a SGS-160 10" away would burn a seedling lol. BTW squeezing aloe leaves is like beiing on the wrong side of a glory hole.

I have used comfrey once. Its great. Breaks down fast. Good compost starter. Good for botanical teas. I just don't have room to grow one. They grow huge and had very deep roots.

I want the 860. Can't afford it at the moment. arghhh. Maybe I'll just say fuck it and get it after harvest.

They are two week old seedling albinos. Definitely bleached. I was around at least 1200 umols at 10 inches away. Backed em off to the recommended 20" and they're getting color back. Man I wish I could post the email exchanges between CMH rep and I lol . The most unprofessional tweeker salesman. Told me to smash the bulb threads just to cover his dumbass LMFAO!!!

The emails or bulb? I have to send the bulb back. Nice black gold pics! Do you know their fav food?

the bulb lol.... Worth a try...

the worms aren't too picky with food. They love veggie scraps, dry leaves and other dried plant material. Once in a while oatmeal. Its a dessert for them. Crab meal , kelp meal, and neem meal once in a while too.

in the bin now I did layers of shredded newspaper, a little peat moss, dried canna leaves, dried dandelions, dried aloe greens, dried lavender. Sprinkled a little crushed egg shells in one pocket. Then 2 pockets of pureed frozen lettuce and celury.

in 2-3 weeks will be next feeding. Then every 4-5 days

Too lazy for that shit^^^I already have a compost tumbler on the community deck and hardly use it! lol........I still think the tumbler w compost starter would be just as fast....maybe add worm castings($5 for 10lbs) to speed it up even more without taking care of "pets".

I'm drinking the trader joe's aloe juice and it's not easy going down............needs vodka :)

You can feed worms what ever you want. Providing all the nutes or most of what you need. They provide castings faster than a compost tumbler. The castings help break down other material. I also sprinkled some of that Dr. Earth tomato & vegetable. Its full of beneficial bacteria. Works as good as bokashi and cheaper. Plus nutes. Store bought castings have very little anything...

its not much work setting up. I throw veggie scraps in the freezer daily (Tupperware). I have a trader joes paper bag throw leaves into and other plant material daily. When I get a newspaper. I shred it and set it aside. The bin took 10 min to make. Then 5 min throwing everything in there. Sorting through the piles took a few hours. Its worth it in the end. Save money and produce far better than store bought. Compost is great. Having homemade castings with it is even better.

I can't drink aloe juice. That taste and smell.... You feel great when you drink a few times. Try eating or drinking kale. Oh man.....

I would've sent it to ya just for all your knowledge sharing. How close do you think I can safely get buds in bare vert? I only have a 5x5.

I've never used that bulb so can't really say. Just measure the heat with your hand like you do with hps. I was figuring the circle in the center be about 2 - 2.5 feet in diameter. Then the bulb is 12-18 inches away from plants. With that much par you can space it out more than hps and get better coverage.

I might have to exchange tent for a bigger one, or do some very strategic placement and/or training. If I have a 2 1/2' diameter, then that only leaves 15" of plant space against closest parts to wall. I'd have to trim backs, scrog, supercrop everything forward, or whatever. Maybe a good fan underneath might let be get closer, but that will cut down plant count. Didn't really think that through derp.

In the end were looking for the same conclusion(black gold)......I agree you can't beat homemade, my worm castings are local http://www.organicmechanicsoil.com/ west chester PA .......their soil mix looks good too, I got to get away from peat based mixes IMO. That vegan sticky is killing me, I'm like a kid in a candy store.....I'm thinking that the Down to earth vegan mix will be a good base to start with , just need a cal/mag source (lime is a no-no supposedly)=== gypsum for cal, but mag???

Kale is bearable.............aloe sucks

It puts out 860 watts of heat :eyesmoke:.....either way no closer than a foot w bare bulb and I like the fan idea in the center pointing up. Gonna need to keep the bulb low and put the plants around it so not to lose to much light upwards or use a cheap umbrella type vert reflector.
