What should I tell the hydro store I'm growing?

If you don't want a lot of questions or any questions, then I suggest you do your homework ahead of time or a make out a shopping list of nutes and supplies so that you know what you want before you even go in.

The hydro stores I go to are very knowledgeable about growing. They aren't pushy and let you browse or offer suggestions without mentioning what crop we are growing.

The only real question I got was if I was ok until my harvest was ready. I just smiled and winked and thanked him for asking.

I have heard the employees talking among themselves about growing and yields, etc. though.

Perfectly said. No smoke shop says asks what you intend to smoke in their products and they usually have signs saying any mention of illegal drugs and you get kicked out. You can ask them about how different pipes effect the smoke, and they will tell you that it cools the smoke, makes it easier on the lungs, all avoiding that magic word...same as a hydro place I assume. Except I imagine hydro shops don't have people working there that look like they smoke weed all day.

you'd be surprised...

It's just like the dude at the head shop the other day. I'm in there debating over which scale is better. "so this one is accurate up to a hundredth of a gram?" We both know what I'm measuring, we both don't care that the other knows. Most hydro store workers are at the least sympathetic to the marijuana movement. They know it's just a plant that grows like any other. Like a great man once said, "don't worry, be happy."

Let me start off by saying my local grow store is invaluable. I have learned so much from the guy behind the counter its great. They are expensive as hell though but it's worth it because the knowledge I have gained I can't put a price on.

I have spent a lot of time in this store asking this guy all kinds of questions about how to grow indoors.

He's never asked what i'm growing and I never told him.

There's no need because he knows exactly what i'm growing, and I know that he knows, and he knows that I know that he knows.

I'm just hoping the state doesn't go after these gardening stores because i've been watching the clientele that comes and goes while i'm picking the clerk's brain and it's fucking obvious the majority of people coming in for supplies are growing dope.

Thought I'd post an update. I visited two hydro shops recently. As everyone said, there was no reason for a cover story at all. It seemed there was an unspoken assumption about what was what. I have a feeling these two shops would not exist if not for us.

One shop I liked and will likely go back to. They had lots of inventory. The other shop I liked less but they did have some used equipment that peaked my interest.

unless you live in some really small po'dung town who cares what you tell them. they're not going to tell your mom when they see her at the supermarket. get over you cash obsession as well, unless your buying equipment for thousands of plants the federal government isn't tracking the sale. no one but a beat cop and a brand new prosecutor on the bottom of the rung give a shit about what your doing. neither of those have the time or the ability to go into the shop get the credit card receipts and ask the clerk if "any shady looking young guys dressed kind of hippish come in here? did they fumble when you asked them what they growing? did you follow them home mister store clerk? no? will you next time?"

this paranoia shit is not for the little timers, it's for warehouse and field growers. basement shops get popped because neighbors complain or the stripper you were cheating on is in the front yard with a shotgun yelling about half the weed is hers.

go in there and say your growing enormous pot plants ... ask a few questions, ask them start out saying tomatoes and such, then throw in a cloning question, you should know the second you talk to them if theyre cool or not. Mine sure as hell are .. i ask them stuff they ask me stuff, were like buddies now.

Just say your a salad lover or that the doctor warned you about eating to much red meats and has suggested you to consume more vegetables and you wish to grow your own tomatoes, cabbage, carrots etc etc.... and you wish to grow at home so you dont have to go to the store all time to purchase all that stuff that cost money and time on your part

My hydro guys are one of my best resources...The cool thing is that they all grow weed or at least they did at one time. So I get a lot of ways to grow and save money from them and they know I'll always be paying cash so the owner loves the business. He gives me 5% discount any time i spend over 100$. You dont need to tell anyone anything, but you can certainly play it out and see what he says...they're more interested in your business than they are in your 'business'

Don't. They all know what you are really growing. No one goes to a hydro store to grow vegetables indoors, unless you are in the artic or something.

^^ My man right there just what I was thinking. they just know... come on ppl are gonne buy tomatos from a grocery store and not have to do all the work... they know what your growin if your spending this much time and effort and money. It doesnt make sense any other way.

Who in their right mind would tell a hydroponics store that they are trying to set up an herb grow room...

Do you think that hydro stores ONLY sell their wares to marijuana growers? Of course not! They would go out of business.
You must be from the East Coast [or somewhere w/o MMJ].

yeah I'm thinking a lot of these responses are from west-coasters... out here in the east things aren't so open just yet.

hydro shops are pretty rare to begin with, I would NEVER go into one looking/acting like a stoner/hippy/whatever. I've only gone into my local store once, for soil and to ask a few questions... the dude in there was probably 18-20.... he looked like he was cool, but I definitely wasn't about to start chatting him up about my purchases... although there was another customer in there who was buying a complete hydro setup, and he looked pretty stoked on it lol... couldn't help himself I guess. he leans over to me while the cashier dude rings him up and he's like half whispering to me "man I hope this works, I want BIG FAT NUGS" and makes the "fat cola" sign with his hands like hes trying to wrap his hands around the fattest cola youve ever seen.... I just lol'd to myself and gave him a thumbs up. can't break character lol.

I was visualizing this as i read it. She was a brunette, not too busty but with a smokin' ass in really tight shorts and a tube top. Classic.

So, if I go to my local hydroponics store to shop for lights and whatnot, what do I say if they ask me what I'm growing? I can just imagine asking a question and being asked "Well, what are you trying to grow" and fumbling around like an idiot.

All the guys at my store grow once they get to know u u can.ask anything when I first was doing topping the guy at the store explained it to.me and drew a pic hes all this is ur mj plant lol
