Aw man my life sucks. I've got some difficult choices to make. Where to begin? Ok, so here's the deal... as some of you know I'm leaving for vacation in a few months. I've got enough smoke to last me before I go and I've got a zip stashed away for when I get back. But the dilemma is that I really want to get a new lens for my camera for the trip. Should I bite the bullet and trade my zip for the lens and just slow my roll on the puffing before I go? What should I do? What would you do about this terrible situation?

Or sell something else?? If I had to I'm sure I could sell loads of my things (grow equipment and buy more later). Not the wardrobe though. That'd be awful!

Damn neo I can't help out. I'm way to wasted. But for some reason I got stuck wondering why you needed a new lens for your thrips. At least that's how it read to me.

Do you have to sell all to get it? How about sell half and buy a second hand one?
Good idea but even a used one is several bills.

I don't think I've ever been so high that I've seen bugs. :-P

what lens are you looking?
Here Gioua you'll understand. I've got a 18-55mm, a 50-200mm, a 70-300mm and a 50mm1.8. I don't want to bring all that. I just want to bring the 50mm and buy a 18-250mm and bring that. I was thinking of trading in the first 2 to amazon to atleast take a chunk out of it.

what 70-300mm is it that you have?

just read up on the sigma 18-250... you suck I am not buying myself another lens!!! but that is a nice lens.. cheap and reviews are not bad looks like the sweet spot on that lens is suppose to be round f8-f11 too

leave the 18-55 at home and bring the 50mm for inside work

you have a built in flash or on board?

Hey Gioua. The 70-300mm is a cheap Sigma that I really like, it's just so big and I don't think I'm going to be using those focal lengths an awful lot but still want a telephoto just in case. My 18-55mm is old, used and needs updated and I think I probably would be shooting a fair amount of wide angles. My 55-200 I never use and has been eclipsed by the 70-300mm. Most pictures will probably be shot indoors with the 50mm anyways. I want to have a wide angle, the prime and a telephoto just in case. I just want to pack light and bring 2 lenses instead of 3 is the real dilemma.

No speed flash atm. Just onboard.

We're going back to China so my wife's family can meet the daughter.

I thought you were Pie at first with the new avi.

1. sell off the 55-200 not sure the brand but should be able to get a few shekels for it
2. Have you talked to your fam in China might be able to get one there cheaper.. not 100% sure but seems logical buy there.. pack the camera.. and a shit ton of flash cards! (or if you have an external HDD to dump off the photo's use that.. I had a batttery powered cf card HD that all I had to do was insert the CF card hit copy then reused the card..

along these lines...

the 50mm is a great lens the only one I would like to have again but now no use for it.. tack sharp and f1.8! and cheap too

fwiw the 18-250 is the only one I would use.. if packing light..

Neo aren't you pretty near where I am? Cen Valley ?
Electronics in China are no longer cheap like they used to be. Probably be about the same price. Pretty sure Sigma is Japanese import just the same. I have an Asus Eepc that I'll be bringing to dump the pictures on, then upload them to my server when I find some wifi.

I haven't seen any images from the 18-250mm so not sure how it does on light. Probably like most crop lenses, outside on a good day it's great. Other conditions not so much. I honestly think the primes going to get used 90% of the time, I just don't want to miss a shot. My wife's brother and I are going to be traveling through some pretty remote places and I just know the prime wouldn't be what I need for those couple times.

Opposite ends of the country bro.

the 50 is fast for sure..

when I was shooting weddings the 70-300 was a great lens (with the cannon 580ex flash) when it came to group formal shots I used the 18-55.

upclose portraits was the 50mm

we generally had 2 photog's shooting with 2 cameras and 2 different lenes + battery packs for flash and camera.. so we didnt miss too much..

I'd say use the 50mm on the inside shots and the 18-250 for all the outside ones.. set at about f7-f11 to get the shaper images

good luck on the trip.. would have love to have seen China...
