When to REALLY flower?

Hello!

Ive had my plants for about 40-45 days or so. Now I've been looking everywhere to try and see when I can set them to flower and I was surprised to see that in most of the pages I've found it says that pre-flower is induced by setting the light cycle to 12/12. Only THEN can you see signs of female/male plants.

What was such a surprise to me is that since 5 days back i started to see my first sign of a female plant. And today all of my plants have shown signs of being female. They all have an open calyx with 2 little hairs sticking out of it. Now to the strange part. I've been on 18/6 the whole time. The only thing I can think of is that I changed from a CFL 250w Cool White to a Syviana Gro Lux HPS 600W about a week ago. The HPS is known to be good for both veg an flower because the sylviana gro lux has some blue spectrum in it also.
Now, to my MAIN question since all have shown signs of sex can I start 12/12 now or should I wait for the "recommended" days from the store which says:
"Flowering time after (days): 50 - 55"

pre-flowers will appear during veg (18/6) once it's mature enough.....but you can put it into 12/12 before the pre-flowers appear

If time and size is not an issue, I would let them veg a bit longer

pre-flowers will appear when the plant is sexually mature regardless of the light schedule and if you are seeing pistils then yes, your plants are ready for 12/12.

Well, maybe, that above "Flowering Time" means you will have them in "Flower/12/12" for 50-55 days....

Grow them in Veg as big as you want... If they are in a 10" tall pot, and you have vegged them for 45 days, and are now 20" tall they will double in height....in flower....in the first three weeks....

Pre flowers are the perfect sign of Fe-males.... Good Luck Man!

Yes sir thank you! hehe I actually thought of that to but I was never sure if it was "50-55 until flower starts" or "50-55 days long flowering stage until harvest"

Well, they are about 20-25 cm each. Except for 2 whom im testing som lst on. Now this is my first grow ever so I try FIM on some and only top on some and lst on others, anyhow, they are in 11 L pots.
Yes I've heard they double during flower. However accordingly to the seed shop they can be about 100cm - 140 cm. Now that will be a problem to me cus I think i can have them at MAX 100cm. What can I do to prevent them from growing so tall? Can i top during flower?

...if you top during flower it will hurt your yields so i'd suggest you top them before you flip them.

keep in mind that this is a skill so don't expect to hit a homerun your first time out, shoot for a basehit and you'll be less likely to suffer disappointment, each grow you do is practice for the next grow and if you set improvement as your goal them no matter how bad things may turn out, as long as it's better than the last time you have succeeded, ...if you set your sights low it is easy to hit your mark, lol.

anyway, here are a few links to threads that helped me tremendously when i was new although i have to admit i fumbled for a few years before i found a way that worked for me, ...these links are to those method's that work for me and maybe they can work for you, ...feel free to adapt them to fit your situation.

...if you top during flower it will hurt your yields so i'd suggest you top them before you flip them.

keep in mind that this is a skill so don't expect to hit a homerun your first time out, shoot for a basehit and you'll be less likely to suffer disappointment, each grow you do is practice for the next grow and if you set improvement as your goal them no matter how bad things may turn out, as long as it's better than the last time you have succeeded, ...if you set your sights low it is easy to hit your mark, lol.

Very nice! Thank you bro. I will defenitly look into this. I got 8 plants in 1 square meter. hehehe, I think it might be tight. But hopefully the grow will be successful enough to buy me a big grow tent

back when i was running that cab i was running a high-density micro-SOG with 55 plantlets in 1liter 'pots' and i harvested 10 every 2 weeks and it was a LOT of work, now i grow 8 plants in 6liter coco hempy buckets around a single 600HPS, ...this way is WAY better, lol.

I have a few pheno's that don't preflower. I have to put them to 12/12 to see what sex they are. Some pheno's I have are just so obvious, and preflower like crazy.

Point being, you don't have to wait for preflowers to begin flowering. Typically, the rule of thumb is when the plants mature. A plant is mature when the nodes switch from opposite to alternating.
