Epsom salt = magnesium sulfate.
Too much magnesium can be detrimental - the sulfate portion is in the proper form to be taken up by the plant.

This sulfate is ok its the Mg that can be too much for your soil specially in a container.

Look up "senescence" plants dont stay green all the way to flower. This is genetics and cultivar specific.
