Not saying it does not work but the job of the roots, is to find water and food, if your soil is full of food and water, the root mass will grow slow because the plant has everything it needs, the plant will grow large while the root mass stays small. (in soil its hard work for the roots to grow)

You can harvest high quality weed in less than 60 days, the harvest window can be 4 weeks, sound like you wait antill the weed is over ripe. Some strains can be chopped in 7-8 weeks.

Depends on the distance between the bulbs, you want the 8" on the outer edge (12-13w bulbs) and as you move towards the centre you want to space them 10" without a reflector, I would keep the bulbs 12"-18" above the canopy
