If you don't deal with bottles you should have no issues. Bottled nutes are something we do not promote with ROL or LOS. Who know what your'e really getting. Think of it as process food when using nute bottles.

Why complicate the average person with the whole PH deal when dealing with a living soil? Have you ever read any of those books I have suggested? Prob not.. Edit: One Straw Revolution is a good start. Look up the chapter on PH meters.

I'm still using those things because they are very easy as you mentioned. Easy to sprout and easy to source. Thats what ROLS and LOS is all about. Keep it simple with high quality ingredients. Just like the food we want to eat. I think the shells are fine myself. My worms dispose of them...
