As soon as I posted the “plumb together “ I realized what a lame suggestion it was, lol. I would prefer a second tote of same size for familiarity/consistency, less thinking/adjustment to routine. I like routine, probably what is keeping me from setting up blumats, lol.
Preferably you want the edible variety with yellow flowers like Richard drysift above photo, I guess most any will work. Aloe barbicans(or similar spelling) I believe, but not sure it matters.the yellow slime is latex and can be drained and rinsed prior to harvesting gel.
Foliar application of ASA works for tomatoes as well, something to do with stimulating the plants “immune response”. From my limited understanding, when the plant is attacked, it produces similar chemical responses in defense, the foliar application kick starts this response without a “pest”...

That alone will not produce smell. It is one of many contributing factors working in the long term toward an optimal end based upon limiting factors. Genetics and environment can be as critical as “nutrients”.
