How efficient are blue used in COB ?

http://plantozoid.com/extreme-420x-pro-vertical-led-grow-light-review/ 615W draw, maybe 510 dissipation W. As far as I can tell they are generic epileds. So if we cal it 20% efficient, that is 102 PAR W or $14.70/PAR W. About the triple the price of a good commercial COB unit Interesting...

    DIY LED Grounding Question

If you have a remote driver, when the heatsink is grounded and there is an accidental current leak from the DC side of your drivers output, the driver will shut itself down, removing the possibility of the grower receiving a serious shock. If you have drivers on board, when the heatsink is...

    Matching Drivers and COBs

@vahpor yes you can run 2 COBs for testing. Just make sure the connections are not "intermittent/crackly" or the variable voltage could pop a COB. I blew a CXA3070 on an HLG-185H-1050B (191V max). It worked fine until I moved the test rig around a bit while powered up and this caused an...

    HPS KILLER Grow Journal

I agree, for now it is hearsay but COBs really are a game changer and you can take advantage of it now if you choose to. It will take some time to go mainstream, maybe by the time COBs catch on we will be onto something else. I have no idea what kind of HPS hood gets used most often. What I am...

How efficient are blue used in COB ?

@PurpleBuz Including deep red may be an individual goal of your build, but it is not required. So if a DIYer allocates some of their watts/money on a 50% efficient deep red, they made the decision not to spend those watts on the cheaper 64% warm white. That difference is not small and spectral...

    HPS KILLER Grow Journal

I was referring to the extra ventilation fan and tubing needed specifically for the AC/DE hood. That said, I have not used my AC since September and wont be using it until April when the humidity sets in. If you can successfully switch from HPS to COB and get the same job done with half the...

    HPS KILLER Grow Journal

HID bulbs do not emit as much light/W as high efficiency LED, so how does HID win besides being cheap up front? Besides, is HPS cheaper? According to Growershouse spectroradiometer PAR maps from this article, the best performing hood for the 1000W DE HPS, by far was the AC/DE style, a $300...

Do you guys rec'd mars hydro 1600 watt led lights? sure are cheap...

Thank you for your honesty, the numbers make sense. You have ~1250W of LED dissipation power between the two lamps. That puts it at .51 grams/W which is not a bad outcome and probably on par with what you would get from a quality HPS setup. I estimate the Mars LED diodes are running at about...

    Matching Drivers and COBs

Yes I think it would work. I do spread the power out a bit more though so you might want to double up depending on the size of your cloning space. There are drivers on Aliexpress. There used to be 150mA which are great little drivers but they are sold out.

Any concise posts/guides on DIY Cree COB?

    So if you put (4) CXB3590s @ 50W ea in a 2X2, I would estimate ~25 PAR W/ft² or 12601PPFD. 200 dissipation W * .563 efficiency = 122.6 * .9 lens/reflector/wall losses = 101.3 PAR W 101.3/4 ft² = 25.3 PAR W/ft² 25.3 * 4.65 * 10.7 = 1261 PPFD averaged If you put that same lamp in a 2X4 you...

How efficient are blue used in COB ?

Cannabis terpenes are volatile organic compounds (VOCs) so the LEDs will be exposed to some amount of VOCs. That said, I have several CREE XRE 6500K Q5 LEDs in my cloning box that have been in use almost non stop since ~2008. They are phosphor based and have been sharing the same air with...

I believe that junction temp is inside the package. If I understand correctly the LES can be higher than the junction temp. That is why it is difficult to directly measure junction temp. It is also difficult to measure LES temp because the huge stream of photons will interfere with the reading...

Any concise posts/guides on DIY Cree COB?

If you pack more of them into a given area you will increase light intensity (PPFD) or if you use less and spread them out you will get less PPFD. So if you have a general idea what you want your PPFD to be and what space you will be covering, you can figure how many lamps to pack in.

True temp droop could change the picture when running them medium-hard. Cree combines temp droop with current droop in their graphs but if you compare their 25C lumens vs 85C lumens you can get an idea how 3070 fares vs 3590

Hard to say from one set of test results but I will definitely investigate more to try and figure that out. @Stephenj37826 Yes it is possible that the difference in LES and beam pattern could skew the results for the 3070s. I will test a CXA3070 3K AB and see how that stacks up. Regarding...

How efficient are blue used in COB ?

Typical numbers: Good efficiency from the deep reds but when you look at the price per PAR W of $4-$6, you can get 64% efficiency for less than half the price using 3500K:

Thanks man (I still owe you one :joint: ). The results definitely raise the CXB3070 3500K BB question, very curious to see how it will do. True it is possible that I have a smokin 3070 3K AD performing near max and the 3K 3590 could be near min. It could also be a measurement error caused by the...

    Top bin COB comparison

Some of the takeaways: -The efficiency gains from running at low power are real/measureable and they continue accumulating even at very low dissipation wattage. -The CXB3070 3K AD performed surprisingly well at low-mid power, especially if you factor in the cost difference. It outperformed the...
