What's up with this leaf discolaration?

It doesn't look like bleaching. But, it could have driven the plant's metabolism, compounding a lockout condition (if one exists). I.e., needing even more of the nutrients which are locked out.

I use Cree 9.5w LED lightbulbs. They're about 35% more lumens/watt than CFLs. But, a bit of an expense compared to CFL. I've recently been looking at GE 10w BrightStick LED lightbulbs. They cost only $3.50 US. (Very cost competitive with CFL.). What I like about these (so far) is that their...

    Reverse Osmosis System PPM

Another good reason to cut your RO water with tap (instead of using purer water and then adding minerals back via a bottle of "calmag."). You might save half an hour. ;) (You would cut it with tap water before the softener, not after).

What's up with this leaf discolaration?

What soil, what food? It looks like N def to me. But, could be exacerbated by overwatering? Do you let the soil dry *very well* between waterings? The container should feel alarmingly light?

    Germination Help

There have been a couple recent threads of people pronouncing seeds dead, setting the seedling cups in a dark corner, and finding sprouts two weeks later (in flower due to the darkness), no watering, etc. You never can know. But, after two weeks I would think it's safe to call it dead. That...

I didn't understand that. You're talking about CFL's affecting nutrients?

Hopefully it's torn into little bits, not a single big clump covering the seed. You want it to be able to push through easily, not lift a large piece of something. (But, maybe it's ok too. I always shred my bits to cover the seed lightly with small bits.). I don't see many people using...

    Reverse Osmosis System PPM

I think, like neal said, you're pursuing a quixotic obsession (I do that too). There's nothing wrong with some dissolved solids in the water. If it's too low, you have to add it back with a "calmag" product. You just don't want it to be too high. 150'ish is good. (You might find you don't need...

    Bleached Buds?

I don't know how to advise you. LSTing takes some getting used to (snapping a few things). It's probably not good to snap this late into flower. I pinch and bend. But, sometimes I snap things. I wrap 2" of electrical tape around it and they always bounce back (always stronger). You can poke a...

Why isn't my plant growing buds?

If you wanted to grow outdoors an autoflower would have been better. It won't wait for the season to change to flower and die.

I hate to sound like a partisan. But, if stealth is your overriding priority, I think you want to keep the heat down, so you aren't running a lot of fans. For example, with LED lightbulbs, you might get away with only one fan(?).

FF soil looks a little heavy/dense to me. I would add at least 30% perlite for better drainage, faster drying. (In another thread today someone said 50%). But, with smart pots, you may not need it (or as much). Hopefully someone who uses Fox Farms Ocean Forest can comment. (It's also reported to...

Bagseed & MiracleGro Tomato ("the cheapsta'")

Take a look at @unwine99's "no-cook" organic soil. (Revised here.). That looks simple and close to water-only. He might do a tea or two. I'd like to try a water-only organic soil without doing the longer-term soil preparation.

Photos? Start posting photos every couple days to this thread. Make it a "journal." That will help others help you if/when you have problems. Are you going to put the starter plugs in soil? I always put them directly in soil (18oz party cup or 22oz seedling container). I find the soil helps...

Need advice on budget indoor setup.

Yes, that sounds correct. You're dealing with a bulb rated for a certain wattage, a ballast which drives the bulb at that wattage (and consumes its own lost watts). And then dimming. It's pretty basic. People generally think of the wattage in terms of sq ft. So, if you dimmed it to 200w, that...

It's a subforum beneath the forum you're posting in. Is there a reason you're not considering T5HO? (Is it not sexy enough? :) ) 40w/sq ft is decent. It's usually the "go to" for shorter spaces. I used to grow with it in a 4' tall space. I got very hard/dense nuggets (at 50w/sq ft with a...

If you're really intent on the throwaway epi-whatever LED fixtures, I'm sure Mars Hydro ships to NZ. But, seriously, drop by the LED forum if you buy one just to see what your options are. There are better LED fixtures like Tasty, GrowGreenLED, Johnson, Area-51. They may ship internationally...

Need advice on budget indoor setup.

I apologize. I said I own these low-cost LED panels (four epi-whatever fixtures). It's strictly about watts per square foot, nothing personal. If someone has $100 (US) to spend on light, why would they buy a light they need to run at 50w/sq ft (that is disposable) when they can buy T5HO to run...

Need advice on budget indoor setup.

I've seen people growing at 30w/sq ft getting airy buds. There's nothing wrong with airy buds if you're growing for yourself. Typically, the "great examples" of these lights are running at 50-90w/sq ft. At that point, T5HO or CMH are better choices. They produce the same results with lower...

Need advice on budget indoor setup.

If you have any DIY skills (which it appears you do, building the cabinet), you could buy some rolls of SMD5630 LED strips and build your own flat panels. They would be much more efficient (useable light per watt) than the inexpensive LED fixtures you see on Amazon/eBay. You'd need about...
