Quad CXA3070 with Hurkel & Sunshine Daydream

Here's the layout more or less. The drivers are all parallel to each other, and the fan adapter in the back. I used ideal push-in connectors to connect everything .

Quad CXA3070 with Hurkel & Sunshine Daydream

Thanks! I took most of my enclosure inspiration from your server rack build, so thank you. As well as the links, Hammond was the only one I had not been to yet. Unfortunately I did not take pictures of the guts, but I can photoshop it together for you. The drivers are all mounted inside...

Quad CXA3070 with Hurkel & Sunshine Daydream

Thanks, I'm pretty excited about the SSDD myself after seeing all the previous grows around here.

Quad CXA3070 with Hurkel & Sunshine Daydream

Hah, it would be great if we could find a tailored fabricating chinese site that didn't rape you with charges. Hackerspaces are a nice in-between since some have a plethora of tools (plasma cutters, 3d printers, etc). Damn, I couldn't find anything on amazon for that price. I found a 17.44in...

Quad CXA3070 with Hurkel & Sunshine Daydream

Thanks, yeah I wanted to have a custom chassis fabricated, but the price difference vs a basic chassis was kind of staggering. Maybe one of these days I'll find someone at a hackerspace to help me, but this works great for now.

Quad CXA3070 with Hurkel & Sunshine Daydream

The stars aligned and I was finally able to build my own cob project. Thanks to a many a threads and posts, I was able to copy/imitate a great light. My build consists of a basic 19" rack mount steel server chassis, 4 CXA-3070AB's, 4 Arctic Alpine 11 Plus cpu/fans, 4 Mean Well LPC-60-1400...

DiY LEDs - How to Power Them

Looks like sanding and some Antec Formula 9 TIM did the trick. I've been running the light now for over 10 minutes and so far, no smoke. Thanks to medicinehuman and observe & report for the advice.

DiY LEDs - How to Power Them

Not nearly as much smoke as that, but yeah pretty much that emanating from behind the COB. With the fans blowing it's actually kind of hard to tell where the smoke is coming from, but I really don't want to test anything else until i get everything cleaned, sanded and properly coated with TIM...

DiY LEDs - How to Power Them

I believe I'm using the same alpine 11 plus as captainmorgan. However, I forgot about the sanding portion, I didn't know if this was integral or not.

DiY LEDs - How to Power Them

Yeah, pretty sure it's a bad thing. Just not sure what the cause is. I'm guessing non-adequate thermal grease as I"m just using the TIM that came with on the heat sinks.

DiY LEDs - How to Power Them

Hah, if only that were true.

DiY LEDs - How to Power Them

Seems I've running into another problem. A big one. I've been turning CXA 3070 box on and after about 10 seconds of constant light, all 4 of the COB's themselves start to emit white smoke from the edges. Is this due to poor thermal grease or is something else at play here?

DiY LEDs - How to Power Them

Thanks! Yeah I think it was a dud, the nerds at the electronic store were slightly unsure as well. I believe all the fans were parallel, I had to remove pins from the molex connectors to make sure all the black and red/yellows were aligned. But, still blew after about 30 seconds. I picked up...

DiY LEDs - How to Power Them

Thanks to all the helpful posts, I've got my quad CXA-3070 AB's up and running, but then my fan adapter blew during a stress test (aka leaving it on for 30 seconds). I'm not sure if it was my fault (wrong connections) or just a crappy adapter. I was using a simple 12V DC 1A adapter to power 4...

    Area-51 RW 75 and a Purple Trainwreck

I'm probably just being overly picky but, here's some comparison. Left is one of the colas from the PT. The middle is a lower flower of Pennywise, grown just before PT. Right is one of the lower flowers from PT. Not a dramatic difference, but noticeably smaller and loftier. US quarter for...

    Area-51 RW 75 and a Purple Trainwreck

Thanks, I'll have to take a photo for comparison. But, half of the flowers are lofty, no real weight/density to them compared to previous harvests. Still very frosty though, and smells a bit like faint rotten fruit in greek yogurt.

    Area-51 RW 75 and a Purple Trainwreck

For those that queried. More or less final product, as I have a bit more to trim as it cures completely.

    Area-51 RW 75 and a Purple Trainwreck

Hah, well the COB's have grown by 1, so now it's 4, 3070 ABs. I'm still in the planning phase, but I'm probably going to start a thread here in a few days with my layout and plan, so those that are more knowledgeable can pick it apart and hopefully answer the last few remaining questions I have...

    Area-51 RW 75 and a Purple Trainwreck

I have a shot of them hanging before drying. I'll have to take a shot of them after they cure a bit.
