Thanks, yeah I wanted to have a custom chassis fabricated, but the price difference vs a basic chassis was kind of staggering. Maybe one of these days I'll find someone at a hackerspace to help me, but this works great for now.

The stars aligned and I was finally able to build my own cob project. Thanks to a many a threads and posts, I was able to copy/imitate a great light. My build consists of a basic 19" rack mount steel server chassis, 4 CXA-3070AB's, 4 Arctic Alpine 11 Plus cpu/fans, 4 Mean Well LPC-60-1400...

Looks like sanding and some Antec Formula 9 TIM did the trick. I've been running the light now for over 10 minutes and so far, no smoke. Thanks to medicinehuman and observe & report for the advice.

Not nearly as much smoke as that, but yeah pretty much that emanating from behind the COB. With the fans blowing it's actually kind of hard to tell where the smoke is coming from, but I really don't want to test anything else until i get everything cleaned, sanded and properly coated with TIM...

I believe I'm using the same alpine 11 plus as captainmorgan. However, I forgot about the sanding portion, I didn't know if this was integral or not.

Yeah, pretty sure it's a bad thing. Just not sure what the cause is. I'm guessing non-adequate thermal grease as I"m just using the TIM that came with on the heat sinks.

Seems I've running into another problem. A big one. I've been turning CXA 3070 box on and after about 10 seconds of constant light, all 4 of the COB's themselves start to emit white smoke from the edges. Is this due to poor thermal grease or is something else at play here?

Thanks! Yeah I think it was a dud, the nerds at the electronic store were slightly unsure as well. I believe all the fans were parallel, I had to remove pins from the molex connectors to make sure all the black and red/yellows were aligned. But, still blew after about 30 seconds. I picked up...

Thanks to all the helpful posts, I've got my quad CXA-3070 AB's up and running, but then my fan adapter blew during a stress test (aka leaving it on for 30 seconds). I'm not sure if it was my fault (wrong connections) or just a crappy adapter. I was using a simple 12V DC 1A adapter to power 4...

Thanks, I'll have to take a photo for comparison. But, half of the flowers are lofty, no real weight/density to them compared to previous harvests. Still very frosty though, and smells a bit like faint rotten fruit in greek yogurt.
