    CXB3590 1500W

I managed to zap myself with a 400 DC volts from a HLG185H-C500A while building a light. It did not feel too good, but not nearly so bad as getting hit with regular 110 Volt AC household current.

Not only is all that quite true, Realstyles, but you are also performing another very valuable contribution to the grower community. As your friend mentioned you are an inspiration to many, since as he put, if you can build a DIY LED light, than anybody can build a DIY light. The difference...

LOL! I agree with your style, Realstyles. Spend less time calculating and more time building high powered DIY LED lights using lots of CXB3590 COBs. Just like there is no substitute for cubic inches when it comes to automobiles, there is no substitute for light intensity when it comes to...

Couldn't you run a pair of CXB3590 72 volt COBs on an HLG-120H-C1050A diver? I have five of these drivers left that I intend to use to power two pair of CXBs. Output is 148V so that should cover two 72 volt CXB3590s, correct? Or am I overlooking something?

I guess I could have shined them up with some semichrome polish. I have a tube and it works great on chrome and copper. Would they work any better if I had? After while, crocodile.

It is a great looking design and very professional, but I like to keep my driver's remote from my lights. I have a small area and drivers can put out quite a bit of heat. I don't do a lot of turning my lights on and off, I use a timer to do that. If I have to move a light, which does not happen...

Hee Hee! That's not slobber. That is TIM. The guy I bought the three larger ones from sent them to me stacked one on top of the other. He left the TIM on the bottom of the heatsink from when he pulled them, so two of them have a little TIM smeared on the top of them. It is not hurting anything...

I got the copper plate and the copper heat sinks on eBay. Probably have enough, especially considering that I have very little headroom in the area. I just got a little carried away buying COBs and drivers and it is enjoyable putting lights together and seeing how much light they put out.

. I went with all solid copper low profile heatsinks. The light and heatsinks are heavy, thus the chain to hang it..

Good day, LJ. If I only had one light, then I suppose you are right that instead of putting them all in the tube, I should have instead put them on three different heatsink/fan units so that I could spread the light around, but that is not my only light in the grow area. I do have one CXA3590...

I think that what you are describing is called a shroud. I just built a light using a flat 12"x12" copper plate upon which I mounted five CXB3590 COBs. On the backside of the copper plate, I used thermal epoxy adhesive to glue low profile solid copper heatsinks above the COBs. I mounted one...

Perhaps that is true in theory, but in practice, two small fans used in the push pull configuration put plenty of air over the heatsinks even though the heatsinks do not fill up the entire tube and there is space between the top of the heatsink and the bottom of the tube for the air to bypass...

That is how I built a recent light. Only instead of using the vinyl fencepost, I used a section of aluminum gutter downspout. And instead of using the alpine heatsinks, I used some solid copper heatsinks that were open to the sides but closed on the top. I press fitted the fans in both ends and...

Cool. I didn't want to have any holes on top and I wanted to make the tube out of aluminum instead of vinyl, since I felt that vinyl would act as an insulator and aluminum would act as a bit of a heat sink. The way I did it was I took a two foot section of aluminum gutter drain tubing that I cut...

caretak3r has a photo of one that he built using the vinyl fence post on the first page of this thread. I like caretak3r's idea of running an exhaust fan at one end and an intake fan at the other end of the fence post, but I don't see how to fit the parts inside the fence post without cutting it...

How do you work inside the vinyl fence post? Do you split the post and after getting everything mounted, tape or glue it back together?

“Buy quality and cry once— buy cheap and cry forever” You pays your money and you takes your chances. After you get tired of screwing around with the crap, you will eventually end up with Cree COBs. It is like the Filson Motto – “Might as well have the best”. You screw around and buy second...
