I believe it has to be pure silver. It's not a matter of sticking metal in water with a charge on it, the silver is an essential element.

SS is the way to go. I just finished out my last years batch and will be mixing the next years worth soon. My plants, especially from seed, did GREAT!!! Although I think my clones didn't really take full advantage of it. They seemed to grow too fast to really sink their roots in.
