Rope caulk is bad. 1/4" butyl rubber weatherstripping comes with adhesive backing doesn't dry out and works great. Push down on the lid a bit to compress it and install a 1/2" screw on each corner of the lid into the flange of the tub through the side. Did this over a year ago, still no leaks...
