    Reverse Engineering everyone's nutrients

A preservative is a substance used to preserve materials from decay. In chemistry a stabilizer is a chemical which tends to inhibit the reaction between two or more other chemicals. The way phosphoric acid is used is to lower the ph of the fertigation water. By lowering the ph of the...

    Reverse Engineering everyone's nutrients

Phosphoric acid is not used as a preservative. It's used to provide phosphorus and also reduce the ph of the solution, as a 5.8-6.2 ph is usually best. Phosphoric acid is actually used in a lot of sodas. Legally of course. Sulfuric acid and formic acid are the only two on that list that are...

    Reverse Engineering everyone's nutrients

You're right, I can contact the dept of ag. What they are required to disclose to the dept of ag is a guaranteed analysis, which shows concentrations of each element. It DOES NOT show what salts are used to create it or the concentrations of those salts. That's what I'm showing everyone here...

    Reverse Engineering everyone's nutrients

Look man, I'm not here to argue what will kill you in 3 days or what will kill you in 30 years. I'm just here to show everyone what's in the expensive nutrient blends we've all been buying. Take it somewhere else or start a new thread for it.

    Reverse Engineering everyone's nutrients

That is what I do. As I mentioned, I take water samples and send them off to a lab for testing. This gives me a number for the exact amount of macro and micro nutrients that are being used. This allows me to make adjustments that are based in science and not guessing. Fertilizer companies are...

    Reverse Engineering everyone's nutrients

So, I've been lurking here for a while. I've used lots of different types of nutrients. And this thread is NOT a discussion of what nutrients are the best or what to use when or anything of the sort. I'll be honest, I mix my own blends according to very specific values and base all additions...

Any thoughts on this 8 COB panel layout?

Honestly, I would only use 2700k or 3000k LEDs. They have a lot more Red and orange than the 5000k which have more green.

Flowering with the new 18w Cree LEDs

If you are going to get LEDs, I recommend reading the data sheet and looking for the spectral output graph. A 2700K CCT lamp will have similar results to an HPS due to it's high red and orange intensity. It's hard to say exactly how they will perform in relation to an HPS simply because no one...

    Designing a 15000sqft facility....please help

That is some expensive fencing. But I also don't know how much fencing costs. What I can tell you is that a recent job we started for a 600kW facility, on a flip(yes, some people don't want to do a flip for some reason), was 140tons. Came in somewhere around $300k - 350k installed. This does not...

    17000 Sq Ft $25000 budget

For equipment alone, you should be estimating something on the order of magnitude of $1500-2500 per 1000W light you are installing. And that does NOT include necessary electrical upgrades and other general construction and remodeling of the space.

Everything takes time and resources. And I'm getting to the stages where I feel I have enough information to start doing true scientific experiments on growing.

Philips Cooperates with NPUST to Develop Horticultural LED Lighting

I completely expect it to over the next few years.

I agree completely. And that is why I've spent a fair amount of time doing things like spectral analysis of bulbs with different ballasts, as well as photometric modeling of various reflectors in a program called Photopia. Sure, I could place a PPFD sensor at a ton of points on the ground, but...

That's what I figured you were getting to. And I assume your recommendations come at a price, is that correct?

Yeah, that is a good point for sure. If they were down around $400 would you find them more worth their while?

Really, the big thing I like about the Gavita, is that it has the ballast built onto the reflector. And that save you a significant amount of install time.

Most ballasts do these days. If the ballast runs cooler, it runs more efficiently. From their website they say about 60W of heat, assuming 1000W through the bulb.

I'd go with Gavitas. I've yet to hear something bad about them or the E-Papillon.

Gavitas use a double ended High Pressure Sodium vapor lamp.
