Yes it will cause it to stretch. With CFL you want your lights 1.5" to 2" away from the plant, it will not burn them unless its the 55 watt CFLs. If you use those, back off to 3" to 3.5". They do not put out much heat but if you run 3-400 watts of CFL, it will get about 88-90 at canopy level...
