I used throughout my grow and I believe it helped. My plants endured tremendous stress at one point, where they were left unattended for 5 days in a very hot box, outdoors, under lights with no watering. Temps ranged from low to high 90s. And they all survived.

I didn't have any such problem. Ventilation and air movement is always key to any grow area.

Smoke, you can easily remedy that large area. I did with mine - see my partition in the pic.

I only pruned those leaves that yellowed and were browning. I wouldn't recommend intentionally cutting away fan leaves, unless you are doing a SOG.
