Do some cultivars prefer synthetic nutes?

And terpenes, most specifically, but the above is all correct. Ultimately, Nitrogen is Nitrogen, Phosphorus is Phosphorus, etc. As others (and your source) have pointed out, the plant doesn't really care much about where the nutrients come from. Like humans; sure, the occasional protein shake...

Do some cultivars prefer synthetic nutes?

Definitely many interesting points here. You're entirely spot on as to what the final goal for a living soil grow should be, and that is self reliance and sustainability. Fact is, very soon you'll be at a point where you don't need to purchase anymore amendments, as you'll have "perfect"...

The capabilities of a simple soil (Outdoor edition)

Little touch up of this bed in the front of my home. Pretty much just dug holes and filled them with a blend of the soil mix pictured, and some of the EWC I harvested. Covered in woodchips, and ready to fill with broccoli and/or brusell sprouts. Depends on what does best. The bricks were...

Do some cultivars prefer synthetic nutes?

You are absolutely spot on about this. This is why strain selection is so heavily emphasized to growers of all experiences. That OG or Urkle or whatever strain has spent its entire lifetime and lineage indoors for decades will suffer outdoors. This is because they have adapted to indoor...

The capabilities of a simple soil (Outdoor edition)

Vegetables are finally starting to show some action! Finally, daytime temps are good enough for them. Night time temps have dipped below 50F some nights, but are above 60F for the most part. Should see some producing for another 4 weeks or so until it starts to stay below 60F consistently...

The capabilities of a simple soil (Outdoor edition)

Most of the medical side of the garden is down now, only one plant left to harvest. Not too bad for outdoor, living soil triumphs again. I would have liked to have kept the others going for another week or so, but we had insane winds that put a damper on that. 50+ mph winds. That's...

The capabilities of a simple soil (Outdoor edition)

Hey man, thanks for the kind words, very much appreciated. $200 every 3 years is incredible dude! Why I encourage others to grow, if only everyone knew it was this simple and affordable! $200 divided by how many pounds you harvest in 3 years? Shit, even just ONE year! Not to mention the...

1st test of 48 hours of darkness before harvest, results

As always, I could be wrong, but I believe the whole "48 hrs of dark to increase resin/quality" is a misconception based on partial truth. Many times with growing forums, you'll find that someone mistakenly attributes the solution to the wrong thing. Kind of like swearing that "insert secret...

Rice hulls as your only aeration

Roughly 1 year to fully decompose is the general consensus from what I've seen throughout the years. Seems to be true from various journals I've seen that incorporate hulls into the mix. I'd personally consider going 40% on the hulls and be comfortable doing no-till in those for about a year...

The capabilities of a simple soil (Outdoor edition)

Never ending. Total blessing, but still busy nonetheless. Most of the plants have been chopped, I've been swamped dealing with harvesting and processing said plants. 1 is hanging and waiting to be trimmed after I finish this post, the others are long since in jars. Been spending all...

    Sohum living soil re-amend soil

Pretty much this. Don't even need to dump the pots, can just dig tiny holes and plant new clones straight into the pots. Top dress with a 4-4-4 or 6-4-4 type of AIO fertilizer blend until bloom, then switch to 4-6-4. Similar to how you did it the first time, just keep planting new plants and...

Converting Styrofoam into Co2 using Meal Worms.

Interesting. Many things produce CO2, but is it a substantial enough amount is the question I have. I've seen some grows in sealed rooms that have so much soil in it that it actually raised CO2 levels, by substantial amounts in some cases. One guy was running like 6 4x8x2 raised beds in a...

    4x4 Bed/HLG Scorpion R Spec LED/Bodhi Seeds/Coots mix +

Happy to help where I can. Looks pretty good for the most part, doesn't look like there's too much to prune at this point. There are some branches that don't look like they're getting enough light now that could be removed. Clear rubbermaid totes work great for cloning, especially those...

    4x4 Bed/HLG Scorpion R Spec LED/Bodhi Seeds/Coots mix +

Correct. Not uncommon for plants to "cannibalize" themselves, so to speak. As you pointed out, they aren't getting light anymore, so the plant effectively sucks the nutrients/etc. from the leaf until it falls into the soil and continues the process. "Hot" is a bit of a confusing term in living...

    4x4 Bed/HLG Scorpion R Spec LED/Bodhi Seeds/Coots mix +

Your plants look very textbook and healthy for the most part. Try not to worry too much. Weed is just that, a weed, should only see problems if you're over-watering or suffocating the plants with love. Ditch those clones, get yourself a clone dome of some sort (I use cake containers) and try...

    How Does Your Garden Grow??????

Never heard of it being useful for fungi, however habaneros make for a great bug spray. Not sure if it'll work for fungi/mold or not, however I know that habanero spray won't hurt your plants in any way. And since the spray is applied to the plants, and not the soil itself, the beneficials...

The capabilities of a simple soil (Outdoor edition)

Now, onto the medical side of the garden. Pretty standard here, not much really to be done except for wait. Definitely stoked I was able to get clones of these plants, I'll definitely be keeping moms. They didn't just survive out here in the summer, they loved every bit of it. Definitely...

The capabilities of a simple soil (Outdoor edition)

Busy few days. Not surprisingly, things pile up quickly as one scales up. Finally got my raspberries and blackberry plants. Once they've finished settling from the transplant, they'll be going into the veg room. At the recommendation of the seller, I'm attempting to clone the raspberries. You...

Best grow room temp for living soil

Depends on a few factors; however the "standards" for indoor grows are typically 75-78F with RH at 50-60% in veg and 30-40% in flower. I personally run 50-60% the entire cycle if I can provide it. Sufficient airflow, sanitizing, and other precautions should ensure mold is never an issue even...

    Weeds

Cover with a thick enough layer of mulch (4-6 inches) and weeds won't be a problem anymore, as they'll struggle to grow through the mulch just coming out of seed. I usually try to toss weeds in the compost pile, as opposed to back on top of the soil, as I don't want more seeds popping up.
